At La Gazzetta Italian restaurant for the second time. The first wine we tried here last time we didn’t like so we tried a different, more expensive one this time. Much better experience by spending a few more Euros…22.50€ on the wine list but the only charged us 18.50€ because we told them we didn’t like their 18.50€ wine. Vino mexicano con cuerpo robusto, color rubi intenso y semi turbio con sedimentos en copa. Tánico con notas de roble, vainilla, sotobosque, zarzamora y canela. Por supuesto que tiene sabor salino característico de la región y unas ligeras notas de pimiento verde al final de cada sorbo.

After 39 years, this wine still has held up well. Typical Rioja Tempranillo grapes with tobacco, leather and black fruit to the nose. Oaky. Almost no tannins and still balanced.

On the palate flavors of cherry and red plum with licorice and floral spice. Medium+ finish, fine tannins, good acidity balance, ending with fruit and mineral character. — 3 years ago

Made by famous Vega Sicilia estate. Deep Ruby with an array of aromas, dark fruits, spice, floral and some oak, aged for about 14 months in French oak, mostly new. On the palate flavors of juicy ripe blackberry currants, blueberry & plum with mocha, espresso and licorice wrapped in oak. Firm round taut tannins, great balance with acidity, full body, long finish ends with fruit, oak, spice, and mineral character. Almost starting to open, definitely needs more time!
