A nose of cassis, raisins, bitter cocoa and a touch of caramel. The taste is a syrupy and decadent assault of caramel, maple syrup and oak. Still a hot finish, but with the lower age it has more body to stand up to it. — 11 years ago

Founded in 1822 and still managed by successive generations of the Guimaraens family. This is something special and should be set down for many years. I opened this bottle early to celebrate my Mom’s 86th birthday, which was a very special occasion. Dark purple with complex aromas of berry & currants with notes of dry herbs. On the palate lots of rich dark berry flavors, with cedar, pepper and mineral at the core. Dense tannins, lingering ending with a statement. Very nice! — 7 years ago

Kopka Colheita Port Blend 1988
Burnt brick red/brown on the eye. Medjool dates, dried cherries, cigar box, cedar on the nose. Palette sees more of that delicious cooked dates in butter, sweet caramelized vinegar, tart cherries, medium- acid, long, savory, buttery finish. Delightful port and love the age on this and also like that the alcohol is not overwhelming- it’s integrated into wine. Not dead yet and lots of vigor to be enjoyed! — 8 years ago

Quinta do Vale Meão
Tinto Douro Touriga Nacional Blend 2013
Youthful, with power and concentration in the nose and palate. A very traditional styled Meao showing the typical style of this wine. The nose shows a mix of red and blue berry fruits, subtle spices, and barely a trace of oak. These wines are always masterfully aged in oak to impart just the right amount of oxygen and wood character. The palate is well balanced, youthful and medium+ in intensity and a fresh, persistent finish. This is just as good or better, depending on your tastes of course, of the recent string of many excellent Meao and reminded me of the 2009.

1963 Quinta do Noval Nacional Port. Final wine of the night for K's birthday dinner at Press. Supposed to be a blockbuster year for port, and it's his birth year as well. Love port, this port was awesome. Smooth, not too sweet, not too strong, balanced. Bottle still had the original dust on it from the cave in Porto. — 11 years ago

Long fresh fruit and spicy finish.
Outstanding wine, great vintage, literally a newborn baby with great mouth concentration, can be aged for 2 decades at least. Accessible to drink, suitable for further aging.
