The Sail

Roth Estate

Heritage Sonoma County Red Blend 2013

Instantly pleasing nose of dark berry, currant, vanilla cream, and black tea with a touch of bergamot. Both extracted and dry on the palate. The finish doesn't sail on, but a more than adequate mid-palate keeps this interesting. Very food friendly and an easy drinker. — 9 years ago

The best part of waking up is Altenberg in your cup! Holy shit this wine is intense. It'll be too much for some, but for those who can handle it, there's unrivaled concentration. Like a massive, billowing golden sail ready to catch the wind and carry you to wherever you'd like to be. Heartening on this cold New York morning. — 10 years ago

I love Aureole. My son and I celebrated his 21st birthday there in May of 1999. I have been there several times since. So I will go out and buy this mind blowing wine based on your recommendation and sail into oblivion while watching the University of Kentucky basketball team win number 37! Go cats!

Quinta do Crasto

Douro Touriga Nacional 2005

Exceptional, one of the best wines we had the entire week. Touriga Nacional is not seen as a great grape by some in the Douro vinified on its own, but for my palate I think it has great potential in the US market as a single varietal. I love the Douro blends, by far the best wines I had on average we the blends. But I'm just saying.... As for the wine this had a velvety red robe color on the edges with a solid red core. The nose was so expressive, persistent but elegant. Very perfume like as it was by far the wine I spent the most time smelling. The palate was just as the nose was, elegant and persistent with red fruits like bing cherry, sweet tobacco, a touch of cream and a nice streak of earthy flavors sail to a long finish with very present but caressing tannins. Wish I could find some back home! — 12 years ago
