Such is the way of life at López de Heredia, the 2010 Reserva was only released to the market last year, while most bodegas are currently extolling the virtues of their 2019s. Well, as a fan of Viña Tondonia, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the 2010, fabled year that it is, having enjoyed many a superb wine from other producers in this vintage.
Decanted for four hours, this wine is effusive from the glass, with a strikingly darker, richer aromatic profile compared to vintages such as 2007 and 2001, and more in line with 2008 - but better still. The oak provides a generous chocolate- and vanilla-laced bouquet that also has blackcurrants, blueberries, cranberries and kirsch, and bouquet garni. The palate is, predictably, very austere at this primal stage, but again has a richer, more rounded mouthfeel to prior vintages that is simply wonderful. Needless to say, this is a benchmark wine for the region and will age rather well, and what a wine it will be in decades to come.

Decanted 1.5 hours. Not quite at the level of some other monte bellos I’ve had, but still very nice. Nose is wonderful - easily a 9.4+ nose. Lots of dark cherry and some earthy / hay / forest floor notes. But this doesn’t quite have the full mouthfeel and depth I was hoping for. Finish is slightly tannic with good acid. Nice pairing with pork chops - and a fun bottle for my son’s 2nd bday. — 10 months ago
Antinori Wine Dinner. The main event. Paired with lamb shank and veggies. This is a very approachable Tig. Pungent red fruit, tobacco, and spice on a lithe mineral-tinged frame. Not as great as other vintages in recent history but outstanding nevertheless. — 4 years ago
Fortunate enough to have tasted this along with 6 other stunning wines last night during a cellar tasting. This 36 year old 2nd growth was nearly perfect, unusual but very pleasant mint, camphor, crushed sage and rosemary aromas with the same cooling delicate herbal initial palate. Dried but expressive red fruits mid- palate with a great structural graphite element throughout. Whiff of new leather. Changed in the glass showing different mellow facets. Pretty much intercepted at the exact right time. A real privilege to taste such a renowned vintage with folks who appreciates what was in front of them. — 5 years ago
From the wine list at EMP bought by a new friend at the table next to us to go mano a mano against the 88 La Turque I shared. Slightly darker red and more pure in color. Amazing aroma that is more linear than the animalistic La La but in the same league. Hit its stride right out of the pop and pour gate. Lovely perfume with a more briary nose but speaks Cote Rotie from the get go. Perfectly integrated fruit and structure. Best Jamet I've had. Thanks to Danny for this treat. — 7 years ago
Deep black color with brickish rim. Aromas is dried herbs and spices are layered with smoky tobacco and cigar box. Dried cherry and currant notes join in on the palate yet the overall profile is of cinnamon, anise and other dried spices which echo on the long finish. — 10 years ago
Bright, subtle fruity sweetness, hints of plum and boysenberry? — 11 years ago
1995 vintage. It was glorious. Deep deep purple color. No aftertaste. Rich in tannins. One of the very best years of Mouton ever produced. I had with steak and with family. In my life I have been privileged to have some great wines. This was one of the very best. So smooth right from the start. Powerful yet subtle. — 9 months ago

2014. Just really good. May have aged a little longer, but definitely drinkable right now. — 4 years ago
Dry but balanced, really good. $14.24 from golden eagle — 6 years ago
Drank this over the course of 6 days using Coravin...still too young, but the wine really opened up by the last day. Smells and tastes like a Grand Bordeaux St. Julien wine as it should. I used to this wine to test the Coravin. It is clear that oxidation starts right after the first pour. — 8 years ago
Conterno showed better tonight. As expected, too much oak presence right now, but showing sweet and pleasant fruit. — 9 years ago
What is all this talk about bad years? Shone like a star, outplacing four other late-60s first growth Bordeaux. — 9 years ago
I know this wine is far to young but when the right people are present you can make the best decisions. — 10 years ago
Absolutely drinking perfectly tonight, the 1999 CdPs always seemed less structured than other vintages around then, great acid balance, just a tiny bit of funk adds some nice complexity, excellent!! — 6 months ago
An incredibly strenuous week comes to an end and this top shelve Napa is just what I needed right now. This is beautifully balanced with a bit of menthol on the nose, tart yet smooth red fruit with just the right level of acidity to make this refreshing. It is a monster of a medium bodied Napa Cab with decades left - great to drink right now though :). This is the 2014, not sure why Dectable keeps thinking this is 2011 — 8 months ago
Medium plus Ruby in colour - when swirled a tawny note shows. Dusty berry derived aromas - cassis/blackcurrant on the medium weight palate; cedar/cigar box with a touch of capsicum. A very good mature left bank Bordeaux from an excellent vintage. I had a bottle of this 3 years ago and received some commentary from other Delectable users that I was drinking this too early. It does have a longer life than I said 3 years ago but I am more than happy to drink it now. As LM Segal said about this wine on Delectable, “If you’ve got em drink em”. As always with Lynch Bages it deserves a higher rating than 5th Growth - but in summary not overly complex. — 9 months ago
The sample of 2019 Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande sent to me last year was an absolute show-stopper. The bouquet needs a few minutes to open up, delivering intense black fruit, crushed stone and incense with time in the glass. Yes, the nose does remind me of Latour! The medium-bodied palate is endowed with unerring symmetry and poise. This is a powerful, multi-dimensional Pichon-Lalande, extremely precise, very deep and long. The 60% new oak is seamlessly integrated and feels just right. It reminds me of the 1996 in some ways, but with more finesse on the finish. Stunning. 14.12% alcohol (Neal Martin, Vinous, February 2022)

Very secondary but still retaining loads of sweet fruit. Plums, figs, chocolate, coffee, cherry compote and leather are bursting forth right now. Double-decanted and tasted with Marc Hochar in Napa. — 6 years ago
Smooth with some deep fruity notes — 7 years ago
Big wine with tropical fruit. Coconut dominates. Finish is not too long...but just right. — 9 years ago
For 12 bucks, this is an awesome value wine. Solid and fruity, but also versatile enough to drink with just about anything you can dish up (or even by itself). — 10 years ago
Stony creek. Blacksmiths like. ESP Anna. — 10 years ago

Berries and herbs with perfect acidity...in a really good spot right now. This is a wine that most definately profits from a long decant! Went well with lamb — 5 months ago
