Wow, incredible, and still holding up after all these years. Upon opening, basically no fruit, all secondary characteristics, especially on the nose. As it opened up, some dark cherry appeared and eventually the nose and palate came together. A sensory journey 48 Years in the making and a pleasure to partake. — 8 years ago
Tasted at Chateau.
52 CF 47 M 1 CS, 100% new oak for 15 m's.
Dark, inky crimson, opaque, compact rim.
Classic Cheval Blanc bouquet. Seductively floral - rose petal, lavender, violet. Elegant red fruit profile with fresh mintiness in abundance.
While evidently young and thus structured, this wine is extremely nuanced and soft (in a good way). Sophisticated and complex black and red fruits highlighted by fresh herbal undertone (mint, sweet basil, and thyme). Incredible finish - long and uniquely memorable.
No doubt, it will be spectacular in 10-15 years and beyond. My first young Cheval is exactly everything I was hoping for and more. 94++ — 8 years ago
Incredible. Jaboulet family apparently inconsistent in final years of ownership, but this one had everything. So dense still, with lots of kalamata olive, olive brine, cherry, blackberry, black pepper, leather, cured meat, earth. Savory, sweet, powerful, elegant, hit every end of the taste spectrum. Super long. In magnum — 9 years ago
absolutely incredible. Bursting with flavor and notes of blackberry sand currants! Exceptional — 9 years ago
Finally getting caught up on stuff I had in France. This needed more time open than we could give it during lunch, but went down quickly nonetheless. Deep and meaty and bloody with a touch of floral lift. Fully resolved tannins and incredible length. — 11 years ago
freaking incredible. slightly starting to oxidize, good for another fifteen or twenty at least. — 11 years ago
So young, still. Incredible fruit and just the beginnings of the tertiary stage. Structure for 10-15 more years. Not a bad day at the office. Happy birthday @andrewmulligan — 13 years ago
Elegant and extremely perfumed, a nice juicy red fruit core featuring ripe cherries, raspberries, and strawberries, followed by dried lavender, meaty beef jus, orange peel, undergrowth, sweet tobacco, charcoal, and intense black pepper. Delicious sweet red fruit flavors on entry with some dried apricots that lead to a umami rich midpalate filled with meaty notes, iron, and a slightly saline minerality that intermingles with intense peppery notes that linger for some time. Incredible silky mouth feel on this midbodied red, very light in structure but intense in flavors. — 7 years ago
Great of course but not as incredible as some of the other vintages of Dominus I've had. Had the silky-ness but was missing some of the layers of flavor complexity imho — 8 years ago
Absolutely lovely -- incredible herb profile -- peppy, in the best sense — 8 years ago
Incredible!

I was disappointed with my last Caymus Special Selection vintage, but this beauty brought me back to a bottle that won Wine Spectator's #1 Wine of the Year ... Twice!! Incredible fruit and balance. This can be cellared and enjoyed for years to come. Cheers!! — 10 years ago
#113001. Incredible elegance and precision, but the brioche and mineral combination dominates in a way that off-putting. Not enough balancing fruit. MV. — 11 years ago
Vert light and fruity.. Easy to drink — 12 years ago
Quick funny story:
Christine & I are LUCKY to have Kelly work in our office but we are BLESSED to be able to consider her and Darryl as dear friends.
We recommended to Kelly, prior to her going on vacation in Charleston SC, that they should stop by the Belmont hotel. They have a bar and restaurant that is 2nd to none in that area. Christine & I LOVE it!!!! Kelly sent me a quick text to say “hey, we’re at the Belmont! And about to have dinner!”
Being the goof ball that I am..... .....I called the Somm and said “I don’t care what they ordered, bring them a Shafer Hillside Select with some age on it!!!”. 10 minutes later he was decanting a 2003 Hillside Select table side! I love that hotel! Incredible service, incredible food and always a phenomenal experience! The only thing better are-our friends that are there right now!!!!
I didn’t Have a drop of this wine but I am scoring it a 10 based on experience alone!! It must have been “Badass in a Glass” as I always say!
I’ll let Kelly and Darryl fill in the official tasting notes!
by the way Kelly: don’t love SC tooooooo much, Christine & I can’t operate that place without you! See you next week! 👍👏👏👏👏👍

Absolutely incredible. Still had fruit and life. Utterly delicious — 10 years ago
Just a baby but already gorgeous. Violets, dark fruit vanilla and a touch of coconut. Amazing body and mouthfeel. Should be incredible in 10+ years — 10 years ago
Fantastic wine. Incredible dark fruit and concentration. A little rough around the edges but the fruit balances that out. Needs time. — 10 years ago
