Te Rua Bay

Salo

Hawkes Bay Syrah 2013

Nose of peppercorns savoury spices and minerals Medium weight with plummy minerality coming through on the palate. Hawkes Bay NZ Syrah has always been a favourite of mine starting with Te Mata's Bull Nose Syrah 10 years ago. This Salo is made by leading Aussie winemaker Steve Flamsteed of Giant Steps in the Yarra Valley Tasted again 36 weeks later. Lacked a little mid palate fruit when compared to the Mt Langhi Cliff Edge which was a similar cool climate peppery Shiraz. I preferred the Langhi. — 8 years ago

Te Awa

Hawkes Bay Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

Opens wonderfully after an hour Or so with spice on the nose, dark fruit on the pallet and the tannins are a touch chalky. Good wine. Nice age worthy Kiwi drop. — 10 years ago

Te Awa

Hawkes Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2005

Amber color and a tiny bit smoky. Way different than the bright citrus of its youth, I May very well like this better. — 10 years ago

Craggy Range

Te Muna Road Single Vineyard Pinot Noir 2013

Craggy Range is a family owned winery established in 1997 and is situated in the shadow of the spectacular Te Mata Peak in the area of Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand. Ruby with a touch of purple on the edges and subtle aromas of black and red berry fruits with floral spice. On the palate black plum and raspberry flavors with fine soft tannins on a crisp acidic frame. The finish shows toasty oak, full-body on a lingering ending. Very Nice! — 9 years ago

Te Mata Estate

Hawkes Bay Cabernet Merlot 2014

2014: Now we are in the presence of royalty so mind your P's and Qs. Te Mata 'reputedly' make the best NZ red in Coleraine and this is the little brother's er little brother. It is beetroot red showing it is as fresh as a daisy. But the taste is already exceptional for the year and the price at $22. No cab sav grassy rebellion and no merlot tart it is refined, low acid low sweetness. Like the All Blacks No. 10 we obviously have depth in numbers and age. It is a delight to drink and will surely improve. I like it — 11 years ago

Beautiful clear expression of Syrah. It's drinking great now but has a few years of life left (but I won't wait to drink it all). — 11 years ago
