Dry fruit, fig, raisin and sultana, vanilla and dark chocolate, mushroom, clove. The finish is medium, and warm. Soft and sweet — 9 years ago
1904 vintage. Medium amber hue. Woody, raisin and sultana to the fore. Warming alcohol, good concentration and amazing length. Not as complex as the '45, but fairly elegant. Still going on the finish after a good two minutes. — 10 years ago
2011. Bronze colour. Nutty, oxidative notes. Grapey, sultana raisins, dates, varnish, cedar. medium+ acidity, round and full. Thick. Off dry. Residual sugar Seems older than 2011. Developing mustiness and varnish notes. Really nice. 13.5% alcohol is high but only ever so slightly out of balance. Delicious wine — 10 years ago
Very good indeed. Mushroom, liquorice, blackcurrant, sultana, prune, dark treacle, very interesting. Saline, sweet dark fruits, forest floor, umami, sweet tobacco.
Not hugely long but complex, sweet. Very nice.

Character is an amontillado sherry made off dry by the addition of Pedro Ximénez. It shows a bright golden amber in the glass. At once saline and sweet, the bouquet includes date, sultana, salted caramel, nut shells and maple syrup. The interplay of sweet and savory is divine. Nearly dry and pillowy in texture, the soft palate is cut by zesty citrus notes and heaps of walnut character. Intense mushroom sprouts along the endless finish while a salty tinge lingers on the throat. Incredible value for $12. — 11 years ago
Deep golden color, enticing expansive baked spiced apples and pears, sultana, honeysuckle, light hazelnut on the nose comes to life on the palate. After a swell of stone on the midpalate, the honeyed, sliced fruit returns for a delicious finish. Fresh acidity and smooth texture make for a wine that is peaking beautifully. Drink now or soon! — 9 years ago
Delicious! Pairs well with “Cjalson” (Puntarelle, Ricotta, Sultana and Black Truffle) — 9 years ago
1976 vintage. At The Ledbury - paired with cheese course. Dark brown hue. Wonderful nose of wood polish, walnuts, prunes, dark chocolate, vanilla essence, amontillado scents, raisin, sultana, cow hide, roasted coffee and rancio. On the palette, searing acidity that is very integrated, full concentration, medium plus body and long lingering finish. Extremely enjoyable. How great is Madeira? Shame so few drink this nectar. — 10 years ago
It is interesting to note that Neipoort crafts primarily Port wines, so this dry red table wine that is a field blend from 70+ year-old vines is intriguing. The nose is almost Port-like with deep perfumy notes of plums, sultana, roasted black cherry, expresso and liqueur and spice…leaning toward, cardamom and white pepper. Silky on entry, yet totally gutsy and dry, with a core of fruit wrapped in refined tannins and moderate acidity. Dried apricot on the finish. — 10 years ago
Classic Hunter Valley Semillon. Clean, bright fruit and sultana. Well rounded body with clean lingering finish. — 9 years ago
Clear, garnet, medium intensity, dried sultana & currant, vegetal- wet hay, earthy, leather aroma. Palate: dry, med. acidity, low med tannin, light body, sour cherry, creamy mouthfeel and lingering complex. finish long elegant. — 9 years ago
Tasted together, the 1983, I'm told was the better vintage. After 32 years, that sentiment still holds true. The aromatics have developed into a demure and perfumey elixir of dried rose petals, forest floor, spearmint, sassafras, and allspice. Its brickish in the glass, the color of worn leather, and yields intriguing, atypical notes of wild game, sultana, dried blood and iron ore. Knudsen Vineyard blocks are seated on iron-rich Jory soils, is it possible that this is the evolution of Pinot grown in this soil type? — 10 years ago
Fashionable Jura over-performing. Sultana & grappa packaged beautifully. — 10 years ago
Tried this at a Robert Parker event about 100 point wines. For the price this is an amazing dessert wine with really long finish and loads of sultana flavour. Love it! — 10 years ago
Nice. Sultana to start but smooths out after airing. Sharp. — 11 years ago
It may not be wine but it's surely not far off it. The Brewer Søren Eriksen even describes this (his) beer as "vinous". The sultana and pinot noir flavours certainly come through in addition to roasted cloves (if that can even be described as a flavour). Delicious! — 12 years ago

Grand Cru Gewurtz. Lychee liqueur, rose petal vodka, sultana, orange rind. Intense aromatics and flavours but sweetness is overt without the acid and alcohol is more than just a purr here. Needs food — 9 years ago
