Medium to Deep Ruby. Lovely fragrance of berry and chocolate - obviously Old Vine South Australian (in this case McLaren Vale) Shiraz. From the cooler 2004 vintage and all the better for it. Mouth filling palate with great length. Drinking at its peak but will soldier on for a while yet. — 9 years ago

Deep Color and Masterly Finish of Richness
Not found in any other Grape.

Only 13.3 alc on the label but this old soldier initially showed desiccated - high ripeness grape aromas. Those blew off after about half an hour with more dried cherries, leather and smoke notes prevalent.
Initial sweet fruit assault leads plums and raisened cranberries. Earth and mushroom sweeps up the finish.

New Year's Eve soldier left behind by @S.R.Alexander. Delicate but complex with grapefruit, cola, and modes cranberries. Plenty of time left. — 8 years ago
This Bordeaux style blend is not quite as big a wine as prior vintages, but has brighter acidity and nice mineral tannins. The dominant flavors are Bing cherry and blueberry, with a thick finish. It was a great complement to cumin seared steak salad. — 9 years ago
Love this blend! Dark but not too oaky — 9 years ago
Needs air but finally blossoms in the glass with tons of minerality and dried fruit. 14.8 alcohol but not a dead soldier. — 10 years ago
Another dead soldier, one worth revisiting. Nice fruit! — 10 years ago
Fallen soldier. Opened up the shop this morning to find this 13 Briords Mag shattered on the floor. Half the wine was left to be filtered and drunk. A baby still, piercing acid and concentration. A damn shame. — 10 years ago
Deep Crimson- very dark for an 18 year old red. Aromas of blackberry currant herbs spice and a note of liquorice. The palate is concentrated with a strong core of black fruits and mocha. Shiraz flavours having the ascendancy over the Cabernet finishing with dry sandy tannins. Fully developed but could soldier on for another 5 years I reckon. — 9 years ago
Nice tannic structure. Bit of a sprinter. Nose fell off sharply after opening. Acidity paired nicely with soldier beans in a strongly flavored sauce. Less pleasant after but still decent. $22. — 9 years ago
Old soldier has hung in there very admirably. Desiccated rose petal and Bing cherry. Dusted earth leads to initial sweetness of ripe black fruit and black tea mix with concentrated blackberry jam.
Finish lingers a long time. Clove and five spice with Amarone like sweetness. — 9 years ago
We polished off this dead soldier. One of my all-time faves. On to the next, lesser, wine. — 10 years ago

My wife picked this up at Sams Club, (where everything is 50% off before they close the Milwaukee stores.) The label says, "Located on Monterey's pacific coast where the cool fog sweeps in each evening". As a soldier once stationed at Fort Ord, I can attest to the coastal fog part. This wine has great berry flavors, mild acidity, and a semi dry finish. A very enjoyable taste at a bargain price. Pairs well with beef tenderloin.
