What a treat! This 1964 Rioja has so much going on. Deep garnet in color, with very little browning, considering the age of this wine. The nose is flinty and waxy, yielding to dried cherries, rose petals, five spice, amontillado, and more. Well-balanced (it had better be, in order to last so well all these years), the acidity is mouthwatering without any tartness. Light in body, with gentle tannins, and an uberlong finish. I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to drink every last drop. — 9 years ago

Vanilla, blackberry, cherry, black currant, chocolate and a bit of leather too. The palate is good with a nice balance. A very strong acid backbone which makes it very easy to sip on. A bright black fruit all along, some grip on the sides and a milky thing on the sides. Some tannins that spice up everything before a very fresh finish with these black fruits. This is surprisingly easy and fresh. I like it — 5 years ago

Beautiful and big still. Tobacco and sweetness/rum hints on the nose. A lively wine with so much character still. — 8 years ago

Nice flavor for a relatively inexpensive wine! Good choice for a random weekday — 5 years ago
