Very complex, perfectly balanced a ton of fruit with savory Syrah notes. Very special. — 9 years ago

Viña Bosconia Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2003

One of, if not my favorite, rioja producers. Fruit on the 03 is a bit crisper than other vintages. Cranberry, tomato (leaf?), deftly deliberate oxidation, earth and savory balsamic, all framed in lovely oak. Fine integrated tannin. Long savory finish — 10 years ago

California Pinot Noir 2012

This is such a smooth and delicious Pinot noir . You can taste subtle fruit . Really could just so sip this wine . Reasonably priced at about $12 — 12 years ago

Wind Gap Wines

James Berry Vineyard Chardonnay

From CA vineyard royalty. Improves as it warms and with air time. This is a lesson in balance. Not a steely chard full of tropical flavors yet retains its minerality. Not an oak laced butter bomb but merely hints that it saw a minimal amount of oak in it's lifetime. Only 12.2% which is incredibly refreshing in a chard, especially one from a warmer climate. Tragic that 2013 was the last vintage before the chard vines were ripped out of the vineyard. — 8 years ago

James Berry Vineyard Red Rhone Blend 2012

Love what Pax has done over the years. I have a few bottles of his 2003 Griffins Layer... It's a beautiful wine that is probably mind-blowing at this point; however, this wine shows restraint, refinement and a sense of place. Looking forward to owning a bottle in a few years. — 9 years ago

9.1

Dark red in color. A bit of spice on the nose, but mostly fruity. Peppery as expected for a Zin on the palette. A lingering finish is present, but not too long. A good solid Zin to represent the Paso Robles Wine Region. — 10 years ago

Château de Beaucastel

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend

This showed excellent for the vintage. Seems to be in a prime window. Campfire, roasted meats, pencil shavings, and dark earth on the nose. The palate is juicy with deep blue and black fruit, savory herbs, and some camphor. Gets better and better with air. This paired like a champ with some charcoal roasted lamb at Laurel. — 9 years ago

James Berry Paso Robles Syrah 2006

Beautiful blueberry and cherry fruit, very compelling front with fruit and booze, but most of the tannins sadly didn't stick around. Since I'm drinking as a cocktail wine for Mad Men finale, it works just fine. — 10 years ago
