Just an outstanding pour from a small production Washington winery. Gorgeous nose of red berries, floral notes, and less herb than I expected. This is a young, delicate wine that is quite Loire-ish in structure. Strawberries, cherries, plums, and herbs. Wonderful, wonderful acidity with plenty of greenness. I hope you don't love your Franc overoaked because this ain't it. Fresh is the word of the day here. This reminds me how much I love Cab Franc. — 9 years ago
Nose explosively exhibits greens as only New Zealand can express; limes, gooseberries, green tea, green melons, wild herbs, and green peas, to name a few. Palate is untamed, raw, and savage. Not bogged down by any oak, this wild and dry Marlborough screams of place. #kiwi — 10 years ago

Purple, moderate plus pigment extraction. Floral and cherry notes in nose, not sure about black olive as someone else noted, but some herbal and barrel toast notes, yes. Flavors of cherry peel and berry with depth and length. A hint of black pepper in aftertaste after its been open an hour. Restrained acidity and alcohol, soft mouthfeel, tannins largely missing in action but not needed, just inexpressive or well hidden. Not a typical wine producer which is what makes them special; Michael typically puts his own spin on the wines he makes. Paired well with a hearty but light pork and tomato lasagna I made using a Cooks Illustrated recipe from their cookbook — 6 years ago
Very Good Cheap Wine @ Savage Legion Bargo! With D & B — 6 years ago
Savage grace. If you want to take a walk on the wild side, but in the most elegant way possible, this is for you. Violets, animal, plums, cherries, dried herbs. Tannins firm but playing a supporting role. A pleasure to follow the evolution over an hour or two. It’s officially fall weather here in NYC so thoughts are turning to southern France... — 7 years ago

Great value. Killer fruit. Very smooth — 10 years ago
Young and bold, this savage warrior attacked my palette and moved in to my mouth, like a mother in law, she means well but we will need to spend some time together to work things out, this wine could easily use 10 years to contemlate its next move... — 11 years ago
Under the radar grape! Norton...savage, well, don't know exactly what that means. ;) Try it and you may find out. Enjoy this at Chandler Hill winery in Defiance. — 13 years ago
$10.99 on sale. Very rich, flavorful and no harsh after taste. Great to pear with a hearty dinner or charcuterie board. Perfect for a fall night. — 5 years ago
Where do I start w/this juice: unbelievable complexity & density for the price! Started out absolutely savage w/dank forest floor, freshly turned Earth, mushroom, acrid creosote smoke, loam, camphor - some kind of hi-toned note, minerals and loads of berry fruit. The nose stank in the best possible way. Cerebral and infinitely enjoyable. Mellowed out over the night & smooth, med bodied/tannins w/hint of zingy acidity on tongue. — 6 years ago
Pretty decent Cinsaut. Lots of ripe cherry , very smooth. Nice acidity. Best with food. Decent showing for a WA Cinsaut — 6 years ago
Other worldy, immense length, fantastic Syrah. Impeccable balance — 7 years ago
Delightfully untamed, savage, aroma of well-hung game (which you know you like). This baby stinks but give it a few swirls in your glass and it’ll start to sing sunshine like it’s chateauneuf neighbors. — 8 years ago
Savage and sagacious. Day 1 animal and Day 3 complex savory and blue fruit goodness. — 9 years ago
Follow the Line. Excellent blend. — 9 years ago
Cocoa, coffee, dark chocolate, tobacco, prunes and plums. Beautiful deep purple color, medium + complexity, delicious. Powerful, savage, brooding, like a hungry bear. If you like the northern Rhône, I highly recommend this pour because this '02 omitted the Grenache. In Portland with the Bachmans. — 10 years ago
One of the winemakers really changing the conversation in Washington. Shows the red fruited side of Cabernet very well. Get to know #savagegrace. — 10 years ago

From magnum. Wild. Savage, sanguine notes of juicy wild berry, rose, mushroom, and barrel funk on the nose. This tugs the palate in many directions at once, at times dark fruited, others herb-tinged, others earthy, smoky as well. This needs time. It's a big boy, too, with big boy tannins and real presence in the mouth. Wine of character. Good stuff. — 4 years ago
