Another lovely and lively California sparkler from a vertical tasting of Gloria Ferrer's Royal Cuvée Bruts. The 2001 is as charming as the other vintages I've tried, though it shows an evolution in the house's style—a trend toward a lighter, slightly softer, fruitier bubbly. Als olors, a mes dels propis varietals hi ha el de flors vermelles. A la boca es un vi rodo amb determinacio que a mes dels fruits rojos propis: maduixa, grosella, gerds te algun toc de fruita tropical: mango, papaia...

The Kir-Yianni Ramnista 2009 is 100% Xinomavro, an indigenous variety that is lauded as the noblest red in Greece, the root "Xino" means sour and "mavro" translated, means black. Does it live up to its name? The nose is a gathering storm of black olive tapenade and black currant aromas, leather, violets, smoke and coriander seed. On the palate, brash, slightly astringent mid-palate tannins hem in juicy Italian plums, iron ore, wild game, and yes markedly high acid. Needs time. 14.0% ABV — 10 years ago
