Château Léoville Poyferré

Saint Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2011

Really on point. Brett and vegetal quality actually find great balance in this challenging vintage. Perhaps a function of better fruit making it to the pavilion. Either way I imagine this is what most young Bordeaux tasted like pre-1980s. — 10 years ago

Cain Five Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2010

Way too young now but destined for greatness. Chris Howell knows how to showcase what the mountain gives him. This wine, with its hints of well integrated Brett, is not only distinctive for Napa, but stands out against others from the mountain AVAs. Cellar for a long time! — 11 years ago

Bodegas Faustino

Gran Reserva Faustino I Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2001

Body medium +, Brett, menthol, pepper, strawberry, cherry, earthy, oak. A bit "hot". Bottle is atypical. You can't see content. Great with beef deli. Grown at high altitude. 13.5deg. A very pleasant surprise! Don't buy a bottle by its label. — 11 years ago

Absolutely amazing. Lots of good brett. Balanced and delicious. Great dark fruit aromas and flavors. So smooth. Medium high tannins and acidity. Perfect silky texture. A little funk on the nose and palate (positive). Aroma and flavors are out of this world. Leather bag full of cherries and raspberries. Blend: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Carmenere. Complex. Delicious 13.5% abv — 10 years ago

Brett? Game, power, plenty of fruit still present. As much as I have hated on the Opus Ones of this world, I am smitten. — 11 years ago

89-91 Opus got it right...not so much after 95 but I haven't had anything since 2006 or so.

Another terrific beer from Jolly Pumpkin. Definitely improves with some time in the glass; much better on tap at the brewpub in Ann Arbor. Doesn't have the depth of the La Roja (which is by far my favorite JP), but still a great beer. — 11 years ago
