What a color! I’ve been fortunate to have an ‘87 and ‘88 (a bottle from my cellar three months ago) and both were knockouts. Color here could be confused for a 10-12yr old wine. Incredibly dark and pure in the glass! Licorice, cassis, and some tobacco on the nose. As it opened, more tobacco leaf type notes came through. No signs of decline after 1hr+ of being open. Reinforced my thought of only enjoying Montelena Wines after 15+yrs. What a pull by @Mark Flesher ! — 7 years ago

Beautiful old wine. I'm getting coffee notes? 88 at el ideas. — 8 years ago
From the wine list at EMP bought by a new friend at the table next to us to go mano a mano against the 88 La Turque I shared. Slightly darker red and more pure in color. Amazing aroma that is more linear than the animalistic La La but in the same league. Hit its stride right out of the pop and pour gate. Lovely perfume with a more briary nose but speaks Cote Rotie from the get go. Perfectly integrated fruit and structure. Best Jamet I've had. Thanks to Danny for this treat. — 9 years ago
Smooth. Drank at BP. $88 — 9 years ago
1985 rose vintage Dom Ruinart. Deep salmon, orange hue. Ripe apricot and butterscotch. 10g dosage. On palate, rich and porcini and truffle. Meaty and leather. Acidity is integrated. Soy sauce and apricot. Good length. Prefer the '88. But great wine. — 10 years ago
Stunning wine 88 vintage. cherries raspberries bacon fat and savory herbs. Well balanced with acidity that really brings out the fruit. — 11 years ago
Wow. Delicious. Much richer and new world in style than the 88 which was tasted in conjunction. — 12 years ago

88 mouton with Keith harding art work. The nose upon opening was sublime. As it decanted and opened, it was a bit disjointed. Has a lot of potential but at this age I think it’s not going to come together. The nose weakened, and the body to finish is a bit jarred. — 7 years ago
Wonderful evening at the City Club courtesy of Jeff’s hosting at the Friday group. Cellar guessing Jeff is a dangerous game as he’s the type who plans to throw curveballs! All wines served blind.
Ageless. Based on color, I immediately thought Napa but the palate had me second guessing. Some rose petal, spice and tart cherry. Cedar. This tastes so much younger than the ‘88 I opened a few months back. Wonderful wines. — 7 years ago
Fun night of cali cabs. 88 Mayacamas, 06 Lewis and 11 Faust — 9 years ago
Smells and tastes like peaches. Dry and flavorful. Good acidity. Well balanced. — 9 years ago
Kano, you are such a tough grader! It's '88 La Mish, and it was the first thing I'd ever tasted after becoming a new home owner. Absolutely delicious, amongst the sweetest nectar I'd ever enjoyed in my life! Far from perfect, but pretty close to one of the finest gifts life can offer. Thank you! — 10 years ago
Crisp, clean, just enough oak taste. Smooth, clean. Very enjoyable. — 11 years ago
Really nice Barbera. Good balance between alcohol and fruit. Would pair well with pork BBQ or even a spicy shrimp. — 11 years ago
My favorite from a vertical of 86, 88, 93, 95, 97 from Mag, 02 and 04. Personality in spades. — 12 years ago
Good dessert wine! — 13 years ago
Overshadowed by the ‘88 in just about every category. The ‘89 was solid but lacked verve. Both the ‘88 and ‘89 were contributed by @Shawn R and most of the bubblies were sabered off in to the Texas night by an engraved saber from @Joe Lucca to @Shawn R . No armadillos were harmed or threatened by the flying corks. — 7 years ago
Meaning “hillside” in Portuguese, a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc & 4% Merlot. Small production, big wine, black berry fruit aromas with sweet spice notes. Flavors of black cherry, raspberry and currants with cacao, with smooth tannins. Great balance, enticing character, lingering finish ending with hints of earthy tones. Has room to age. Very nice. — 8 years ago
So in the battle is who is the best child... we paired the 88 vs the 90 (son vs daughter birth year). Both were outstanding but the 88 had more age in the color and softness on the nose and palate. Family currently arguing over density but for me the 90 was more dense. Lots of mixed fruit leather smoke and terroir which is very French but great for those who enjoy it. So in the name of family peace we rate both as outstanding but the 90 (the daughter) is a bit bigger. Cheers — 9 years ago
Imagine biting into a juicy, ripe, liqueur-soaked peach-tangerine hybrid. #Burgenland #austrianwine — 9 years ago
Dark ruby color with aromatic, blackberry, black currant, a bit of tobacco, eucalyptus and violet aromas. On the palate it's medium-bodied, and well made with an appealing texture, dusty tannins, and good acidity with blackberrry, black currant, black cherry, and a hint of dark chocolate flavors. Lingering sweet finish. Blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, 4% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec. 14.5 alcohol. Retail - $28 Very good value! — 10 years ago
Line up of Dom Ruinart BDB Mags: 88, 90, 93. All worthy- 90 So powerful/balanced and slightly more tropical. — 11 years ago
Jakub Kalinowski
Pale translucent with an initial exotic outburst of pineapple and melon, then a bit more subdued with grassy aromas and a strong note of ginger. On the palate with a great mouthfeel, juicy and with a touch of tannin. Ripe pear & melon with a ginger / spicy edge, a pinch of saltiness and ending with a mineral, lemony streak. Light but with character, highly drinkable and delightful. — 7 years ago
