@Delectable Wine this is the 2013 Silverthorn Wines Cape Winemakers Guild Big Dog IV Méthode Cap Classique.
Our first time every at the Cape Winemakers Guild Auction and we will make sure to come back! (Tasting was on 9/28/18).
Second wine at the Friday Auction Tasting for the Cape Winemakers Guild and last sparkling wine. This is a sparkling wine (Methode Cap Classique) made by John Loubser from the Western Cape. Made up of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay as well as aged on the lees for 51 months before 9 more months in bottle and prior to disgorgement. Only 73 cases produced and only 42 being auctioned in 2018.
Light greenish yellow in appearance with tiny bubbles. Mute on the nose with a bit of lemon, light sweet spices, kiwi and limestone. Moderate acidity (7/10) and rich palate. Creamy mouthfeel with layers of spices, green apples, citrus fruits, white flowers and mouth watering minerality. Long and lingering finish.
$$ - Tasted at the Cape Winemakers Auction. Average bid at auction was R4,410.00 ($51.94 a bottle) a case. Highest bid was R6,200.00 ($73.02 a bottle) and lowest bid was R3,000.00 ($35.33 a bottle).

Stellar Cinsault that paired wonderfully with duck at Rust en Vrede. — 6 years ago
Agree with the other comments, a really beautiful Rose reminiscent of a great Provance. — 7 years ago
Need to get more of this — 7 years ago
Tobacco, cedar and earthy aromas. Complex, brambly, and extracted flavors of dark cherry and cassis. Longer barrel and bottle age yields smooth tannins and a long finish. — 8 years ago
Very smooth and rich good tones a little hard to find sometimes but most stores will order about average $19-$21 — 8 years ago
Raclette night. Closed out the night with this decanted beauty. Plum and prune nose with cedar box and some forest floor notes. Still a lot of fruit and life, integrated soft tanins and great acid. — 5 years ago
Single block of Syrah aged 18 months in French oak and another 14 in bottle before release. Great aroma and full without causing pucker — 6 years ago

@David L this is one of the wines we were talking about from the Cape Winemakers Guild and it's still a baby.
Fourth red wine of the night. Super dark, deep garnet and ruby red. Slightly tight with lovely earthiness, a little greenery and bright red cherries. Moderate plus tannins (7.5/10) with an insane backbone and structure from acidity. Full bodied with tons of red cherries and dark cocoa. Needs a ton of time but in a few years this will be singing. Long and lingering finish. Drink from 2018 till 2038. (94+) — 7 years ago
Most wonderful red blend bought directly from the vineyard. 2012 estate vintage. — 8 years ago
Rust...dusty and dried tertiary beauty of red fruits, spice, leather and forest floor...fun and actually better than the last bottle!
Should have used the #durand! Old Bordeaux transforms into a much wider spectrum of cuisine pairing. We had this with a seared duck breast and confit leg...excellent match! — 8 years ago
Love the elegance that is all tightly packed into this wine. Decant or open and try the next day. — 9 years ago
