Notes of dark red fruit, earth, and spice. Light body and medium acidity with smooth tannins. A relatively simple, but pleasant wine. Excellent value at $16. Purchased at Brooklyn Wine Exchange in Brooklyn, NY. — 4 years ago

Wine with roasted whole chicken part 2: I used to adore Ribera Sacra, & then moved away with the inevitable rise in price & trend towards more modern styles. Not this. A short decant (45-60) to take the wind out of the Brett sails, & we were off: dense, brambly black fruits on nose & palate, with a distant barn door left open on the nose. Medium plus acidity. It’s the length though that impressed me, along with a freshness (at 13%). Evolves in glass, as if the fruit still has layers. Like a really good chinon. At about 28$, a high end QPR. Eric Solomon imp, interestingly enough. — 3 years ago
Opening nose of fresh tart cherry and pomegranate turns to darker ripe fruits, with peppery and earthy undertone while retain the initial rustics character. Medium to full body that carries decent depth of flavors. Tight tannins.
A really good Mencia that I underestimated initially. — 4 years ago

Soft nose of Indian spices, beef jerky, and dark purple flowers. Upon tasting there is a flash in the pan sensation of Northern Rhone Syrah that continues into a black and blue showcase of perfectly ripe fruit. Lavender is there, violets are there, and also a touch of dried clove. The finish is long with a beautiful continuation of everything that's mentioned above. This is an absolutely stunning expression of Mencia. — 8 years ago

Complex and supple. Violets, tobacco, concentrated fruit. Lovely freshness and a slight green character, like a sassy version of Beaujolais GC — 10 years ago
Got it at the Ferry Building. Nice olive-y notes, medium body, middle-to-high sweetness.

Sunshine bright. Medium acid and smooth finish. Apples and honey. — 5 years ago
No notes but lively acid, drinking very open, dark cherry. Like a good bojo cru in terms of fruit vibrancy but with mencia funk under the hood. A wine for drinking. — 6 years ago

Great balance between white pepper and minerality. A little too light for bbq but great for 2+ glasses with a full moon out tonight. 2012 Ribiera Sacra - Pena do Lobo. Nevermind the thirsty monkey #riberasacra #redwine #red #spain — 10 years ago
