Ellaguru Red Blend

Crazy good. Like dr browns black cherry soda meets restoration hardware leather couch. Look at bill’s socks and slides in the background lol. We ate too much guacamole so now we’re reheating Chinese food for dinner instead of actual cooking. This rosé will pair beautifully. — 7 years ago

Domaine Michel Niellon

Clos de la Truffière Les Chaumées Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2015

Cocktail hour at Christie's hosted by the Friends of Notre Dame in the effort to help raise money for the cathedral's restoration. The wines were artfully curated by @Noah May.
Second up was this delicious and supple white burgundy. Pears and apple blossom combine in this texturally elegant wine. The finish is adequate if a little stilted. It should be noted that when I had this wine with an elegantly crafted canapé, both exploded with taste. Next time it will be a whole bottle with a full meal!

Domaine Charles Audoin

Marsannay Pinot Noir Rosé 2016

Somm David T
9.1

On the nose, perfumed, candied fruits of strawberries, watermelon, cherries & Rainer cherries. Ballpark chewing gum, soft, powdery chalkiness and pink rose petals. The mouthfeel is round, ripe and fresh. Fruits are; ripe strawberries, watermelon, cherries & Rainer cherries. Ballpark chewing gum, roses petals and really like the soft, delicate, powdery chalkiness and minerality. Acidity is round, soft and mouthwatering. The long finish is round, fresh and delicious. The 2016 yield was about 1/2 of normal. Photos of; the Marasanny vineyard being harvested, outside shot of the Domaine & their stainless tanks in the the cellar as well as Cyril. Producer history and notes...Domaine Charles Audoin lies in the village of Marsannay-la-Côte. Descended from a long line of wine growers passing down from father to son, Charles Audoin took over the family property in 1972 with his wife Marie-Françoise, an oenologist by training. Located within the commune of Marsannay-la-Côte. Domaine Charles Audoin began with only three hectares but the estate has grown to nearly 35 acres with a diversity of soils. After taking over his father’s five acres of vineyards, Charles Audoin and wife Marie-Françoise developed the estate through the restoration and the purchase of new lots. Their vines are over 45 years of age on average and have a south-eastern orientation. Cyril prefers lower yields and has less intensive extraction for softer and more elegant wines. Happy Bastille everyone!

Robert Keenan Winery

The Original Reserve Spring Mountain District Estate Merlot 2013

My WOTN at a dinner with Michael Keenan (with some 15 different cuvées in tow, so settle in...). A bit more brooding than the ‘14. Still with great purity, but a bit more powerful and savory. “The Original” is a reference to the restoration of the Mailbox Vineyard to its original configuration, namely Merlot. — 7 years ago

Castello di Monsanto

Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2013

In 1961 Fabrizio Bianchi, a textile manufacturer from Milan, realized his dream and purchased Castello di Monsanto and, in so doing, realized a long-held dream. Bianchi undertook the complete restoration of the vineyards and winery. A top wine on 2016 lists, Ruby with berry fruit and floral spice scents. On the palate cherry with notes of tobacco and cacao. Rich full tannins, well balanced on lingering finish. Perfect to drink now. Tasting Sample. — 8 years ago

The third of the wines served was this exquisite Sauternes that burst with apricots, honey and orange peel. Sometimes I wish I had the occasion to drink dessert wines more often. This was one of those moments.

Cocktail hour at Christie's hosted by the Friends of Notre Dame in the effort to help raise money for the cathedral's restoration. The wines were artfully curated by @Noah May. First up was this beguiling Chenin Blanc that was golden in color and burst with peaches, orange peel and spice cake. Its richness coats the mouth. A fascinating wine. — 7 years ago

Mauro was created in the 1970's by Luciano Suarez, specializing in the restoration of medieval monuments, and Felix Choque, cousin of Mariano Garcia, the former winemaker at Vega Sicilia. Flavors of raspberry and cherry some leather and earthy pepper. The wine had good balance with oak on fine tannins. Lingering finish ending with earthy tones. — 8 years ago
