This is the 2019 Chef & Winemaker Cask Aged Dry Riesling (Finger Lakes). My brother said he bought it from Ravines, so it has some connection to them obviously. Nose exhibits some new oak toast, but underneath is crisp, minerally Riesling fruit. On the palate there’s a similar progression: it’s full, with an initial whack of oak followed by lean, austere, minerally Riesling. Unique but I like its individuality. — 3 years ago
A nice white blend that is probably more semi-sweet drinks easily as a semi-dry due to being mildly bubbly. Went very well with a Christmas ham dinner but nice even by itself. — 3 years ago
Bought in Hudson NY.
Very nice dry Riesling from the Finger Lakes, Geneva NY.
Paid $19.
Very nice. — 6 years ago
Lip-smacking, well balanced acid with a hint of sweetness. Natural effervescence. Golden hay color. Honeyed apricots and tart Granny Smith apple. Rain soaked limestone. I laid this down for another couple years before opening it. Well done sir....well done! — 7 years ago
Really lovely with balanced fruit and creaminess — 8 years ago
A little thin, $13 a bottle, a bit like a Beaujolais, not quite as fruity. — 10 years ago
Beautiful balanced moderate acidity PN aroma — 2 years ago
2019 | Chardonnay
Ravines Wine Cellars
Geneva, NY, USA
Always an interesting wine due to Morten's use of appasimento style for 1/5 of the grape harvest.
Honeycomb, dried lemon peel, ripe pineapple core; pineapple puree, lemon zest, butter, oxidized yellow apple peel; long finish, round, complete.
East Coast (ish) vs West Coast Chardonnay

Similar to lat year, mineral driven, some red berries on the back end, refreshing. — 3 years ago
Delicious combination, especially for the Finger Lakes. Smoky finish, sweet. — 4 years ago
Impressive. An old vintage but still full of potential. Great length, nearly perfect acidity. Strawberry flavour. — 4 years ago
LBV like. Very good. — 4 years ago
On the Lawn at Tanglewood this afternoon with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Our conductor Andris Nelsons is leading BEETHOVEN (Symphony No. 4), HK GRUBER (Aerial, Concerto for trumpet and orchestra) with the amazing Håkan Hardenberger as the trumpet soloist and then STRAUSS (“Dance of the Seven Veils” from Salome). Andris and Håkan happen to be friends, and both are trumpet players, I expect to see some playful nature to their interaction this afternoon. Mr. Hardenberger is a world renowned and virtuousic player, we're always glad to hear him, this will be his 4th Tanglewood appearance in 5 years. We expect various mutes to be employed over the work, a cow horn (yes it is want you think) and then finishing with piccolo trumpet, exciting to have a soloist work multiple instruments over his appearance!
Nose has green apple peel, dry seashell, cold quince, cut lemongrass and faint green herbals.
Palate has floral/ripe pear, yellow apple, green apple, fresh lemon rind and light sweetness on a medium-long finish. Fun bottle for a warm afternoon!
Off dry blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Valvin Muscat, a new offering for 2019, believe only available to the Wine Club or direct purchase at the winery. — 6 years ago
Friday night random whites...
Fresh, clean and refreshing, light White peach notes. Nose is attractive, but a little too cold on first taste, so slightly closed initially.
Off-dry blend of NY's Finger Lakes region Cayuga & Vignoles, nose is really opening up nicely with some air and warming of the wine in the glass. Not overly complex, but this is a solid buy for the $10/$13 (wine club/retail) price. — 8 years ago
Finger Lakes are producing some very nice wines. — 9 years ago
A tale of two Francs. More grip and terroir expression here. Darker berries, longer finish. Comparable quality to the Ravines, just with different character. — 11 years ago
Nose is closed but gives up scents of blueberry strudel, stony gravel, violets. Medium bodied, but tightly coiled. A bit shy, but there’s a nice depth to the flavors, which are of dark berry and cassis, with a nice underlying minerality. Good but soft acids, and some very fine grained tannin. This will certainly develop nicely over the next few years. — 2 years ago
So fresh, fruity, and reliable. — 3 years ago
Great structure with body, grippy tannins, strong acid. The flavor takes me to cider town. Left me wanting more. — 4 years ago
A pre-dinner bottle while we do meal prep tonight.
Prior notes still apply:
Nose has lime zest, lime juice, green hay, wet granite/limestone pebbles, oxidized green apple peel, polyethylene tubing and tangerine peel.
Palate has Key lime flesh, cold tangerine slice, apricot skin, wet-pulverized limestone, lemongrass, tangerine zest, (minor) dried apricot and light honey on the medium finish, medium acid, great balance. — 4 years ago
Ten years later. Stupendous. Could go even longer. So much different than my other bottle I opened a few years ago. Well balanced cab franc, cab sauv, merlot blend. Side by side tasting with Ravines 2007 Meritage that was cab sauv heavy blend. Amazing experiment that proved NYS red wine can age well! — 8 years ago
Searing acidity and BLEACHED BONE DRY. Lean and nearly mean. Atypical for Austria. More like A Ravines FL style or old school Mosel Trocken in a cool year. However underneath lurks pure Crystal citrus fruit. Needs 4 yrs to soften up. Only for the hardcore acid freak,I mean really enamel ripping. I like. — 9 years ago
Robert Stackowiak
With 69 percent Cab and 31 percent Merlot, this blend has smoothed Tannins. Not very complex probably a product of the NY Cab, but an easy drinking wine. August 2023. — 2 years ago
