Brick red, leathery, rounded — 7 years ago
This really stood, nicely following CDP and Cornas. Lots of depth, meat, spice with smooth tannins. Magnum. At Villa Creek. — 8 years ago
Smooth as silk, blackberry for sure. — 9 years ago
Cool secondaries, still has good structure, a little funk, went back to this a couple hours later and fruit had dropped off quite a bit. — 9 years ago
Day 2 so damn good. Silky. Rich. Velvet. Long finish. Damn — 5 years ago
Caramlized ruhbarb, strawberry pie on the nose. Great fruit. Perfectly balanced. — 7 years ago
Classic Northern Rhone style. Bright black fruit, violet, a hint of smoked meat and black pepper/olive. Mid weight, fresh acidity and well structured. Definitely a cut above standard Cali Syrah. Classic wine from a classic producer — 8 years ago
Great balance of structure and oak. $11.26 I — 9 years ago
#gamey like a lamb kabob, #saltartyness like green olives, #dry like Cali in a drought year. Love it! — 9 years ago
While visiting the Qupé tasting room in Los Olivos, they poured the medium-ruby '11 Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard Pinot Noir. A funky earthy nose intermixed with floral and savory herb notes. Subtle and elegant palate of cranberry and cherry flavors. Hints of neutral oak on the aftertaste. — 9 years ago
Just a delight with our apple cobbler last night! Beautiful notes of apricot and peach and just the right amount of sweetness 😋 — 6 years ago

Another tasting room favorite was the purple/garnet '12 Qupé Syrah 'Ibarra-Young Vineyard'. Scents of brambly blackberry, anise and violets. Palate shows rich flavors of dark fruit compote with some notes of mocha. Ripe tannins with balancing acidity on the spicy finish.

As someone who hasn’t had a lot of California syrahs, this struck me as well balanced and built for long life. At 13% abv not at all opulent. That said, a lot bigger more aggressive dark and brooding than I would have expected, especially 8 years in. Black olive tapenade, dark chocolate, espresso, black tea, black plum, dark fruits, black pepper. Underlying hints of smoke and maybe even a floral note. Has an attractive spicyness and pepper flavor to it and finishes with both pepper spice and chewy tannins that still feel quite young. Acidity really nice, but still overwhelmed by that chewy tannin mouthfeel. Not sure if this has yet to uncoil or maybe never will. It’s delicious as is, it is there more? Hope to find out! — 5 years ago
