Drank 1/18/19 at the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux event in Miami. All wines from the 2016 Vintage.
Tasting pour, no formal notes taken. Most of these wines are very tight, and will require 5-15 years to really come together. Many will likely improve a few points with time.
WOTN for me. Pauillac also seemed to be the highlight of this vintage. A stunning wine with silky black and purple fruit backed by firm tannins, but a bit more approachable than many, and a step above the Pichon Baron in my opinion. — 6 years ago
Not much nose to it on pop & pour, give it some time in the decanter, it will pop!
Probably one of lowest scored HSS by professional reviewers,
Parker 92, but some time in the bottle has helped
Big difference between this and the 05 & 07, those were great! But even those needed a 4 hour decant — 7 years ago
Une vieille bouteille Pour la fete de Mathieu ! — 7 years ago
Fantastic! Intense, smoky, earthy, and sexy. Spices and cherries to boot. Pop and pour. Paired beautifully with venison. Juicy, creamy, and sweet finish. At its peak! — 8 years ago
Big fruit liqueur upon opening, settling into a lighter berry candy nose. Transforming flavors pull in many strong directions, but never last long enough to knock it out of round. Sweet and sour, earthy and floral. Opens up to an easy-drinking, versatile, pour-at-your-own-risk, pairing machine. With: brie, tarragon mustard, baguette, castelvetranos, and cured meats.
Edit: Finding chalk toward the end of the bottle... Also, sadness for not having another to open. — 8 years ago
I have to toot my own horn a little on the cork removal gymnastics I performed here. Magyver would have been proud. Big wet earth component, nose of Genoa salami and tobacco. A touch of spice and cherry. Plenty of fruit but tannins dominate. Still nice on day 2. — 9 years ago
Great with boiled shrimp at lunch — 6 years ago
Lean but structured. Freshness come.from good acid and strawberries. Minerality brings good mouth feel. These guys are terrior nuts with French background so it makes sense. Good wine. Better presentation when chilled. — 6 years ago
Scarlett- warming taste is evident in every pour- bold, strong and something impossible to ignore. The delight of pouring these spicy invigorating flavors, is well overdue. Hesitation and patience balance well sip after sip. Pouring deep glass fills; the twist of the unknown stands -a silent pause , evolving gradually as sand to a beach the taste enhancing more and more! — 7 years ago
What an amazing blend! This is a strong, funky wine that slaps you right in the face! Bright purple/magenta, sediment, lots of viscosity, powerful nose sees ripe cherries, oak, vanilla, cured meats, palette sees bright ripe cherries, lots of acid, medium+ tannins, high alcohol finish. This is an extreme, untamed, wild wine in every sense. Enjoyable, invigorating! — 7 years ago
From an auction bottle that had a low fill and might have had some seepage in its past. Light amber color. Thin and translucent in the glass. At the start there is a huge sweetness from the nose of the bottle to the first pour in the glass. An exotic bouquet developed over the afternoon and evening as this gained weight from the air it took on. At the 5 hour mark it was rich in the mouth to go with the amazing complex bouquet it was giving off. Notes of sweet cherries, Asian spice, dry dirt and a little molasses. Was still riding high late into the evening, and everyone's views of the wine kept improving until the last pour. The next day the empty bottle still has the sweet complexity it had when opened. — 8 years ago
I found this to be a very enjoyable wine. I was hoping for a little bit more Oak. I'm not quite sure how it would evolve over time. I always find these to be a great pop and pour wine. I never hang on to them too long in my cellar.
I would love feedback from anyone that has aged some of these to see how they evolve.@Ron R @Mike Rowe @David A Lentine @Howard Greenfield — 9 years ago
— 6 years ago
Great Cabernet Sauvignon blend with a hint of Malbec, Petit Verdot, Syrah; dark berries, chocolate and aromatic herbal tea — 7 years ago
Most vintages of this wine are great pop and pour candidates but this one really benefitted from some time in the decanter. Both the tannins and the acid are strong. Nice flavors of raspberry, cola, baking spices and vanilla with mineral notes on the finish. — 7 years ago
Nothing like a good bottle of claret after a long hike w/friend. Dont seem to think was a good vintage but w/a good maker—-drinking nicely now. Black currants, cassis, gritty tannins, acidic lift but all integrated. Decant/ pour carefully — 8 years ago
Ya know those times when you find something in your wine collection you forgot you had? On the allotment list now, but not back for this 2008 (@Roman Sukley did I buy this from you or The Judge?). Strawberry, deep dried cherry, wood, tobacco. Smooth as silk at 15.1, and popped 2 hrs ahead of drinking. My sweetie usually just takes a sip of what I am drinking - last night she asked me to get her a glass, and kept asking me to pour her a little more. Yes. — 8 years ago
A superb wine had in the Caribbean. Immediately from the pour you could tell that it had much vitality in it with deep ruby to purple coloration and a big wild mushroom nose. Needed surprisingly little time to open up and develop. This was my first Mouton Rothschild and wasn't disappointed to say the least. The tannins were delicate to the touch, giving the overall mouthfeel a sense of sublimity. — 9 years ago
I suspect this didn't get quite enough air. Not quite pop and pour but it was only open for 45 mins before we drank it (we were perhaps over-concerned about the mid shoulder level). Lovely (and lively) russet core with long legs as a ruby rim; nose of pencil shavings, cigar tubes (hint of metal with lots of tobacco), blackberry stalks, and lingering aromas of compté cheese rind and venerable (on-the-edge) rose petals; long and satisfying - persistent tannins and well integrated but still present acidity. From half bottle - need to give the next one more time!!! — 9 years ago
Holy shit. Mr. Pott, when is the last time you've had this wine? — 11 years ago

Pop and pour but better on day 2 and 3. So decant or wait. — 5 years ago
