This lemony white wine has a character that we prize in all wine, but especially white wine, and that is "wetness." Sounds obvious, but in an age of heavy cloying wines it's actually elusive. Refreshing-ness can also be acid driven, but wetness is different, it's the liquid sensation, part of great sake, and this wine had it in spades, tasting like pure snowmelt and fresh-squeezed Meyer lemons. — 9 years ago

I looked at my last posting of this (from 4/2016) and stand by my notes.

I absolutely LOVE the various Single Vineyard Abreu's which to my palate are some of the most awesome wines coming out of Napa but I just don't see a resemblance to this 2nd label?

At $125 (if I remember correct) on the Mailing List I'll rather enjoy the $375/425 spent on the real thing.

I used to think this was a "super second" but at this point Blankiet's Prince of Hearts or Bryant DB-4 takes the prize for me.

The prize of Basilica, Aglianico de Vulture, from the volvanic soils of Mt. Vulture, this is a good one, sturdy tannins with chocolate-cherry notes, this was really good for a younger wine. Super QPR for a 92 from RP. — 9 years ago

This H&M Hoffer Gruner Veltliner hit the mark yesterday as I moved through tastings of a Sancerre, Sav Blanc and Alsatian Pinot Blanc. The Gruner Veltliner took the prize! Beautiful, bright acidity with a smooth finish. Day bright, clear color and medium plus viscosity. Underripe fruit, lemon grass, dry and so refreshing! In my quest for dry, white wines of the world, this one has moved high up on my list! — 9 years ago

The bouquet sets this all up with notes that announce your about to enjoy a real prize. Almost like a ghost - at first, it's feet never touch the ground (your tongue) but before you know it it's gone - leaving a delicate wake of mature red fruit and a great finish behind. Brilliant! — 10 years ago
