Perfectly poised and saline. Great concentration but light as hell. A focused oyster shell thing then gorgeous bright fruit. Contained still. Very elegant with huge power. Probably way too young but sheer class with great length. — 7 years ago
This is the most picturesque Chateau in Bordeaux. Oh...and they make a pretty amazing Bordeaux. It's a good first look at the 03 vintage from my five bottle set. There are steak wines and then there are steak wines. This was a 10 pair with the T-bone...Heaven. The tannins have softened but have many years ahead to get to that perfect place. The mouthfeel is full, round, creamy and elegant. The fruits have a not too sweet liqueur style. They are; blackberries, dark cherries, black plum, black raspberries, plum, sweet tobacco leaf, anise, used leather, black tea, used coffee grounds, rich wet black turned earth, stones, dry red florals, spice; clove, nutmeg, baking spices; very light vanilla, touch of caramel, dark chocolate and acidity that pours over the palate. There is the start of harmony in the structure, length, balance and tension. The finish lasts a full two-minutes and it crushed with the T-bone. Next bottle in 5-7 years. For the legions of you on Delectable crushing only young Napa Cabernet, you have no idea what you're missing in aged Bordeaux...forget about it...even vs. well aged Napa Cabernet. Respect!!! 3-4 hour decant and it needed every second of it. — 7 years ago
Good balance, pretty low-bodied and low-tannic for St. Estephe, very drinkable even though quite young, red berries with an elegant touch of oak — 8 years ago
Had to aerate for 10 minutes only for the woody stinkiness to disappear.
Brownish ruby red.
Prunes, raisins, maybe overripe strawberries on the nose, next to cognac, black pepper.
On the palate, it's pretty intense: Rather watery than viscous, sweet on attack and finish, low tannin, distinct licorice on mid-palate, acidity neither firm nor flabby.
Medium-short finish, but the mild tannin lingers for quite a while.
Might be time to drink up, for this is pretty ripe already. I wouldn't want this to disintegrate more. Fun to drink. I'm happy to notice that, while I like this mature thing, I really also want to drink younger reds with a more velvety texture and firmer tannin and taste profiles.

Obscenely good. At the moment it's pretty huge and young but so impressive and so long. A Bordeaux wearing rocket propelled roller skates — 9 years ago
Juicy, firm. Still burly and young but pretty tasty. Needs meat #southafrica #detoren. — 9 years ago
Cranberry pie. Round, smooth tannins. Pretty young — 9 years ago
Can't believe it's still young n pretty! — 10 years ago
From Magnum. A young vintage for sure but a great example of excellent winemaking. Decant for 3+ hours and showed very pretty but still will benefit from 10 more years. Good showing for the vintage. — 7 years ago
This is drinking really well. A lovely nose with kirsch, a herby sage thing and meaty, lively red fruit. On the palate young and vital. Lovely bright definition- vivid and powerful. Heat in check. It's young but much better balanced than a lot of 07's with great Pegau funk. Excellent and a good way ahead — 7 years ago
Simultaneous feelings of extreme satisfaction and extreme shame at drinking a thing so beautiful but so young. — 9 years ago
Mouton Vertical dinner. Wow! One of my dream wines to try. This btl came from the cellars of Mahler-Besse collection and was in perfect condition. Ruby red color, sweet ripe red fruits on the nose with eucalyptus, cassis, chocolate mint and exotic spices, had this cola thing going on with soy and caramel. So big, rich, opulent, sexy and young but fully mature. What can I say just a perfect wine in every way! — 9 years ago
2013 vintage. Just got our allocation. Had to open one to appreciate where this will be in a few years. Lots of ripe red fruit, abundant spiciness, pretty bright acidity. Nicely balanced for something so young. Gonna be sick in 4 or 5 years. — 9 years ago
2013 opened 2017. Still young, but very drinkable. Cinnamon and blackberries on the nose. Lemon zest and dark chocolate on the front of the palate. Light silky tannins the rest of the way down. I'd like to try this again in 5 years, but it's pretty damn good right now! — 7 years ago
Awww shit, my first Rougeard! So stoked on this. As a Loire Cab Franc nut, getting to taste this is amazing and it definitely lives up to expectations. Hope I can get my hands on a bottle of Les Bourg or Les Poyeux sometime, because even this appellation-level bottle is insane. This pours a ruby-garnet hue of medium (-) to medium concentration, fading to a burnished pink rim that is just starting to show signs of age. Moderately concentrated, elegant, ethereal nose of perfectly-ripe wild raspberry and blackberry, crushed rose petals, graphite and pencil shavings, lightly grilled green bell pepper, and a smidge of already really well integrated new oak that comes across in this particular wine as a subtle espresso undertone. On the palate, the fruit character is ever-so-slightly underripe (in a positive, refreshing manner) and there's an extra shot of cool graphite mineral intensity but otherwise is pretty congruent with the nose. Perfect amount of pyrazine character; enough to add complexity and freshness yet doesn't dominate at all. Medium (-) to medium body, medium (+) acid, and medium to medium (+) intensity of incredibly fine grained, supple tannins. Insane complexity and length. Honestly between the oak and incredibly skillful phenolic extraction, the texture is the most intriguing thing about this wine. Definitely worth the hype. I somehow managed to snag his for under $100 too so I'm pretty stoked on that too, haha. Definitely could keep going in the cellar for a while but honestly still delicious now especially if you give it some air. Some pretty incredible stuff. Also, RIP Charly Foucault. — 7 years ago
Aromatic, bright, and firm. Probably too young, but it was a pretty show. First time around with this producer. — 8 years ago
Pretty Bordeaux. Pencil lead. Sage bright hues. Bit young will be better with a few more years under its belt. A little more richness would have made this wine better. Tannin was still a bit drying. — 8 years ago
Anniversary Jacuzzi suite bubbles 😎 this was in a really great place and was really singing; I could smell it intensely just from pouring it. Rich and redolent of bruised yellow apple as well as caramelized apple, lovely fresh brioche, starting to show a bit of pleasant oxidative nutty character reminiscent of glazed pecans, a bit of baking spice, English toffee, and chalk dust. Almost like a nutty, toffee apple pie or something, Just really delicious. Acid is still nervy and provides a strong backbone but has had a bit of time to integrate in the mix with all the other elements and is in great balance right now; not punishing like some younger blanc de blancs can be. Fine bead provides a rich, creamy mouthfeel that's just delightful. First Grand Cru Champagne and it lived up to expectations. Serious value as well when it comes down to it, I paid like 55 bucks for this thing. That's pretty impressive for a vintage Le Mesnil Grand Cru, I'd say! — 8 years ago
Young at 2014 but really pretty fruit and killer acid. Would be fun to taste in another year or two — 9 years ago
A pretty floral and elegant red fruit driven wine. Reminds me of Beaujolais meets Pinot Noir. Red floral notes, red cherries, red plums, pomegranate, clove, a touch of toast. The body is silky with pronounced acidity and a touch of bitter tannins in the back palate. — 9 years ago
I think it's pretty good even though it is young. This is a solid second label wine. Maybe a bit pricey but close to worth it. — 9 years ago

Clearly not a Bdx wine, but remarkably young and pretty. — 6 years ago
