Ruby with complex fruit aromas, spice and oak. Blend of 89% Tempranillo & 11% Graciano, aged 48 months on American oak. On the palate flavors of jammy dark berry fruits with spice & smoky earthy notes on ripe full soft tannins. Long finish, nice mouthfeel, ending with fruit, oak, cigar box spice and mineral earthy tones, a joy to Sip this Fine Wine!! Tasting great, has more aging potential! — a year ago
Fantastic 1988 Phelps Insignia. Fresh, lively with acidity and wonderful red berry flavors and slight cocoa notes on the finish. Silky mouthfeel. Nose still unfurling hints of sweet chocolate and raspberry. A gorgeous showing. — 3 years ago

I love the deep red violet color. Notes of berry, cedar and black cherry. Not as good as isosceles, but priced well below. Delicious! — 7 years ago
Wow. Like a berry pie with a little spice — 8 years ago
A lot of oak with berry berries and very dark color. A joy to drink. — 8 years ago
This really does need a good ol decant but has wonderful concentration, very deep, almost broody nose of intense blackcurrant and dark plum fruit as well as a strange but very attractive mix of blueberry & graphite, almost heading towards prune.
A very well balanced mid palate though seems to be somewhat lacking in acidic lift overall but the fruit seems well integrated with the tannins, slightly underripe black berry fruit and with some grip on the finish, food would benefit this wine at the moment but it would be interesting to see how this comes along. Feels like it would benefit from at least another 5 years in bottle. Decent length. — 10 years ago
Dark Ruby with aromas of ripe berry fruits, herbs and earthy oak spice. On the palate flavors of black cherry, raspberry and currants @ with espresso, cacao and earthy notes. Well balanced, lively acidity, fine ripe tannins long ending with fruit, oak, mineral and tobacco spice! Nice Napa Cab! — 8 months ago
Originally bought for a cross commune, horizontal blind tasting in preparation for the MW exam, this has been waiting in the cellar. Decided to decant for Christmas dinner w beef and mini Yorkshire puddings.
Very complex nose with cedar, tobacco, black plum and dried berry notes. Elegantly resolved in the mouth, plush even. Interestingly this wine threw both tannin sediment and tartaric crystals. — 2 years ago
Aromas of red cherry, raspberry, pomegranate and sweet tobacco. Multi-layered flavors of red, blue and black berry fruit, plums, cherries and a hint of blood orange underpin subtle layers of exotic spice and toast. Fine tannins and balanced acidity drive a long finish. Very Good. — 6 years ago
Love what Pax has done over the years. I have a few bottles of his 2003 Griffins Layer... It's a beautiful wine that is probably mind-blowing at this point; however, this wine shows restraint, refinement and a sense of place. Looking forward to owning a bottle in a few years. — 8 years ago
Love love this wine. Very fruity love the blends of black berry strawberry and chocolate — 8 years ago

Big and bold Pinot! Deep purple/garnet color. Aromas of cooked black berry/raspberry, purple flowers, black licorice and pepper spice. More black cherry and blueberry fruit on the palate with notes of dark chocolate, baking spices and maple. Quite rich, concentrated and viscous. Velvety tannins and moderately low acidity. Big Pinot! — 9 months ago

Dr. Steve Brule gets a 10! Drank the 3L at the ranch. Worth it!!! — 4 years ago
Delightful bouquet full of candies berry landing on the palate with lots of layered flavor - fig, blackberry, licorice - and just a little glycerol, but a nice lingering and headed length. Might last longer still if I didn’t need another swirl and sip before it passed ;). Good value under $24 — 6 years ago
From CA vineyard royalty. Improves as it warms and with air time. This is a lesson in balance. Not a steely chard full of tropical flavors yet retains its minerality. Not an oak laced butter bomb but merely hints that it saw a minimal amount of oak in it's lifetime. Only 12.2% which is incredibly refreshing in a chard, especially one from a warmer climate. Tragic that 2013 was the last vintage before the chard vines were ripped out of the vineyard. — 7 years ago
Intense raspberry on the nose with hints of smoke. Amazed how time has tamed this wine. Rich and lush red fruit this has successfully transformed itself. Reverberated in every nook and cranny of my mouth Carries its alcohol effortlessly. Last of 3 bottles and this one was head and shoulders better than the previous 2. — 8 years ago
Crazy awesome. Tons of black pepper, smoke, tobacco and bacon fat. Luscious dark fruits. Very fruit forward palate. Waaaaaay too young. — 9 years ago
So refined for a 2013. Very drinkable now. Floral nose and berry finish. — 9 years ago
