Surprisingly youthful nose of luscious rich plummy baked dark red fruits and the most etheral sous bois and pipe tobacco I've ever smelled. The palate had poise and grace in its age, everything was in fantastic balance. The tannins are shockingly fine, adding the structure that is necessary to hold everything together. Simply superb. I can only hope I show as well as this when I'm nearly 65! — 9 years ago

Generally regarded as one of Australia's better Pinot Noirs on the basis of its perfumed nose and plummy medium bodied palate with lovely silky tannins. Could identify with @Ira Schwartz note recently of aromas of boot polish. I used to say varnish but I think we are on the same page. Great Pinot. — 10 years ago

2001 vintage. Ripe Blackberry notes with plummy chocolate flavours. Add the mocha oak and it is almost the Penfolds DNA for Shiraz!! Still with tannic backbone at 15 years. Tasted another bottle on 23 September 2016 with consistent tasting notes. Amazingly youthful for a 15 year old wine. The Penfolds Tasting Bible The Rewards of Patience say drink to 2018. I think it will cruise past that into the 2020s. — 10 years ago
