The first whiff is moderately Bretty, if the clove-and-band-aid kind, not overwhelming but adding complexity; then slight green peppercorn but not particularly vegetal. A cherry and dark berry note next but not until this has been one. For an hour do I get a note of sweet red raspberry and strawberry fruit, almost candied, that really emerges on the palate (very different grape but similar to the “inner mouth sweetness” that people often associate with Giacosa). The palate gains heft with time open but remains middleweight, mouthwatering and nicely balanced. Tannins are unobtrusive and soft, with little bite.
This exceeded my expectations and was quite classy, if not likely to be the most long-lived of Loire reds. For Franc-de-pieds, there still is no comparison to Plouzeau’s, and this is far lighter but definitely a high class wine. — 6 years ago
Wild Cherry, raspberry, herbs and spices. Benefits from a short decant — 7 years ago
Lovely soft berries and soft tannins good for a few more years — 8 years ago
Strawberry / herbs w/o the sugar. Good for drinking on a boat. — 8 years ago
Nice Cornas but not showing its best. Quite briny and dark without much purity of fruit. Rather chunky tannins. Perhaps could have used a long decant - had at Le Coucou. — 9 years ago
A rich but very well balanced and delicate wine — 10 years ago
Juicy and succulent rose. Acidity toned down a little. Was a such a pleasure drinking it! — 10 years ago
Not filtered, wild yeast, no temp. control... All the things that make a wine unique - and it shows here with some wild acidity. There is a pleasant sourness here with some cranberry and strawberry balsamic note and then that crazy, sour tannin structure. — 10 years ago
Loire power couple Catherine and Pierre Breton have cab franc all dressed up. 2014 Les Perrieres is their prize - pretty now, will be beautiful in time.
Elegant and deep - traditional the way cab franc contributes to Bordeaux blends.
Old cedar and pencil shavings. Fresh raspberries and stewed plums and black cherries.
Concentrated perfectly - salty solution with a little grip. Plenty of time to mellow out. — 5 years ago

Nice and easy with a roast chicken — 8 years ago
High score for enjoyability not complexity. Grainy fine tannins, real verve & energy, cassis/currants. Johannes find. — 8 years ago
What a great find and a steal for vintage champagne. Chardonnay with some texture, a creaminess that coats the tongue and a slightly toasty. Apples and pears. So round. — 8 years ago
Smokey and complex. This is the epitome of nero d'avolo. This was my introduction to the COS Winery and I think it was a perfect one. — 9 years ago
Loved it. Tastes like a super Tuscan. — 10 years ago
Occhipinti triumphs again with a way-better-than-it-should-be-at-this-price killer Nero d'avola. — 11 years ago
Sorrel, raspberry, blackberry, brown sugar, slight lavender smell, color is dark purple not clear, taste is acidic, jammy, with a good tannin base hidden by sugars, the acid mixes well with the jam and greats a woody metallic fruity finish — 6 years ago
Was served chilled, and it was interesting to see how the flavor developed. A bit funky, in a good way. — 7 years ago
Great nose. Herbaceous. A bit too much bell pepper on the palate. Maybe should've decanted a bit. — 7 years ago
Great color. Cool varietal. Excessive Brettiness upon opening that aired out over night, but other than that... great notes of burnt orange and honey. The palate was creamy with very balanced tannins. This is the only other orange wine that has reminded me a lot of La Stoppa’s Ageno, which is one of my all time favorites. — 8 years ago
Unexpectedly good. In fact, unexpectedly still intact. A little jammy. — 8 years ago
Wow. Love this Sardinian. The front is big and salty. My favorite with big flavored food. I have not decided on the end yet. This went down with an awesome grilled pork loin seasoned in prunes and Dijon mustard. Side was a very flavorful split pea and onion mash. — 10 years ago
Little tingly. Light and first, but then plays tricks on your whole mouth. The guy at the store told me it was a weird, off-putting wine. — 12 years ago

Terre Nere Campigli Vallone Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2018: Medium bodied. Perfect balance between tannins & acidity. Fruity youthful taste. Bright fresh notes of red fruits; additional tobacco, herbs & spice. Dry soft finish. Overall, high QPR for this Montalcino Sangiovese; a great vintage even though it’s a younger & lighter Rosso but it can easily compete with more expensive Brunellos! Highly recommend.
