This weekend I have opened the 2007 Antonio Vallana e Figlio Gattinara Nebbiolo.
On the nose it is light with notes of cherry, raspberry, leather, anise, rose petals and an earthy component.
On the palate is tart cherry, sour cranberry, raspberry, herbaceous qualities, with an earthy note.
This wine is medium bodied with medium + acidity and high grippy tannins that leads to a long tannic finish. Enjoy your weekend and please be safe. Nostrovia! π·π·π·π· β 7 years ago
Dusty wine, with dark cherry and rose petals. Not strongly acidic. Great Chianti β 7 years ago
Super tight, but wonderful aromas/flavors after an hour/hour 1/2 of decanting. Rose petals and dark fruit on the nose. Tart cherry, raspberry jam, floral notes, & minerals on the palate. β 8 years ago
Anise, rubber, rose petals, β 8 years ago
Excellent expression. The nose billows out of the glass, with black maraschino cherries, menthol, and wilted rose petals. The acidity accentuates everything on the palate. Well-balanced spicy fruit with schist and sandstone highlights. The acidity sings through to the finish. Great wine. β 9 years ago
Just wow. Menthol, ripe cherries, rose petals, clay, dried leaves, nectarine pith, and a huge array of carefully interwoven flavors all come to the party in this expertly crafted wine from rock star producer Raul Perez. A steal at the price. β 9 years ago
Gxy. Rose petals and Savory candy β 9 years ago
Delicious ripe fresh red fruits with hints of forest floor and rose petals, medium plus tannins, polished wine β 11 years ago
This is an iconic wine in the making. Ripe cherries, rose petals, purity, refreshing acidity and mouth watering finish. Go Brazil! β 12 years ago
G Mascarello Barolo Monprivato 2011. Drunk over two nights without decanting. Light garnet red with watery rim. Very closed the first day with notes of unripe cherry, spices and finishing with tobacco leaf. In the mouth it was almost weightless with very lean structure, medium acidity and tannins. The second night the wine gained in weight, structure and depth. It showed similar notes with the addition of dried raspberries, rose petals, liqorice and dusty minerals. The tannins were more gripping but still supported by good acidity. While the second night I enjoyed it I am not sure this is worth the price tag or if I should wait and taste it again later on to have a better experience. β 6 years ago
Insane! You would never guess this is from Cali. So good, compares well to some old school barolo.
Classic nebbiolo aromas of mainly rose petals at this stage. On the palate, more rose petals, tar, cherry and a bit of raspberry. Light body but firm tannins still. Made the mistake of pop n pouring, ideally need a few more years and definitely a decant. β 7 years ago
About two hours in the decanter before drinking. Really started to open up and show its true self. Light rose petals, tar and whole lots of earth. Definitely fading but a nice surprise β 8 years ago
Just turning brickish on the edges. Decanted for 90 min. Rose petals and floral perfume aromas. Cherry, and tar on the palate and the tannins soften after the decant. Smooth and yummy! β 8 years ago
Predominantly red fruits, minerality, wet dirt, dried rose petals, vanilla on the nose. med + tannins, 13 % alcohol, tart strawberries and cherries on the palate with clove and vanilla. Long finish, acid med +. Delicious and desperately crying out for lamb. And most importantly... delicious π¬ β 9 years ago
Barn red color. Nose of rose petals and earth. Juicy red fruit and cranberry with (still) grippy tannins. Delicious! β 10 years ago
What a wonderful versatile pure Beaujolais - light violet and rose petals, mild tannins, but structures for a light wine. Live it. Quality for price unbeatable. β 11 years ago
Orange peel, rose petals, and soft mineral. β 7 years ago
Floral and slightly candied nose with sweet red cherries. So perfumed for a village level wine with a trailing hint of roobois tea leaves and rose petals, not unlike the style of Rousseau. Not saying they are similar in style, but at least the village seem to be. Vines planted in the 70s. β 7 years ago
Customary pale salmon color with orange undertones. The fruit on the nose isn't overpowering but it's there. Strawberries, dreamsicles, and rose petals.
Medium acidity and bone dry, this is straight up ProvenΓ§al. Impressive balance and weight. The palate reinforces the nose, with more strawberries and orange zest. Fresh watermelon, herbs, and a slight touch of peaches round it out. β 8 years ago
Despite it being a light wine the rose petals are overwhelming. This is in fact a good thing as it is balanced out with white cherry bright strawberry water Mellon and a brilliant acidity. I would very easily describe this wine as juicy but not sweet. β 9 years ago
Medium bright ruby color. Heavy tar nose at the beginning, mixed with a hint of rose petals. Charming. Let it rest for a while, I got sour cherry, sweet cinnamon, plums, passion fruit, campfire and smoky nose. On the palate, it's smooth and it has bright acidity, medium dry. Dusty and iron rusty. Solid and very approachable. 13.5% alc. 2013 vintage β 9 years ago
Very much alive and youthful in coloration, mint, fennel, rose petals and not much in the way of funk just yet. Would be an excellent choice with lamb or game with some wild mushrooms or truffles to bring out the tertiary components a bit more. This particular bottle in ten years could be fantastic if you prefer more dankness. β 10 years ago

Nothing more fun than drinking Giacosa at 12,000 ft. with my parents. Great balance (holds its alcohol so well) bright strawberry and rose petals. Fine, elegant tannins, even at this young stage. β 6 years ago
