Very good but somehow not as great as I remembered. Maybe what we drank before tainted it. Maybe it went a little long in bottle. — a year ago

Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2005

No formal notes . Deeper ruby , medium wide ruby , garnet rim . Nice dark fruits , garrigue , black pepper. In the mouth nicely balanced acidity dark fruits , black pepper and herbal touches . Quite mineral and balanced on the medium length finish , fine slightly grippy tannins . Elegant and refined. Drinking well now though absolutely no rush , prime drinking over the next 5-10 years perhaps . — 8 months ago

Not usually a fan of Chardonnay, but this was a pleasant surprise. Very bright, and doesn’t taste too rich. Excellent chilled. Strong notes of green apples and pears. — 7 years ago

Clos Rougeard

Saumur Champigny Cabernet Franc

Great wine! Screams Loire cab franc, but on another level. Made the mistake of not giving it time to breath, as the first sip was overly green with bell pepper and paprika. By the end of the glass the green had become largely integrated with the fruit. The transparency of these wines is unmatched in the grape. — 10 years ago

La Chapelle Hermitage Syrah

Exceptional wine - deep ruby color with a huge bouquet of violet, plum, black pepper, black cherry, licorice, vanilla, clove, prune and dried rose petal. Velvet tannins, the alcohol is well balanced with the fruit and full-bodied texture. Still in its infancy but already delicious, this wine has a stunning future — 8 months ago

Les Picasses Chinon Cabernet Franc 2004

heavy pencil shavings and cigar smoke on the nose. black olive and green bell pepper too. color is definitely what you’d expect in a 20 year old wine. palate is consistent with nose, very bordeaux-lite. heavy cigar box. a lot of olive and herb tapenade character. some black pepper on the finish too. very savory overall. — 3 years ago

Domaine Faury

Vieilles Vignes Saint Joseph Syrah 2014

Loads of black pepper on the nose, with hints of clove, eucalyptus, and plum. Black pepper carries through to the palate with the addition of sour cherries, black tea, slate, and a nice chalkiness. Decent acidity and a medium finish. Overall, an interesting and layered wine; one that would shine better with food rather than on its own. — 6 years ago
