Pauillac Chalone

Château Grand-Puy Ducasse

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

Classic Bordeaux nose, if a bit muted. Had plenty of life at 20 yrs old. But a thinness on the finish that left us wanting more. — 4 months ago

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

Réserve de la Comtesse Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

A 2nd Grand Cru Classé 1855 Chateau located in the southern end of Pauillac that produces powerful wines with amazing structure wines.

V.2018 was beautifully blended at 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35%Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 8%Petit Verdot, that delivers high-powered notes of espresso, tobacco leaves, and dense-black fruits on the nose.
Full-bodied, rich and velvety with an exquisite silken mouthfeel that is so signature of Pauillac wines, very plushy and opulent, yet well-priced and worth every single sip to the very last drop.

Age worthy to a decade if patient. However; literally couldn’t wait for it and had it all in a single seat!

I have never had a bad bottle of this second wine. Even a 1992 that I had a few years back is probably one of the 15-20 very best wines I've had.

Thanks for sharing that Daniel. I was very surprised with this label and ended up buying 3 more bottles for cellaring. This Vintage is still climbing to its peak. Pretty good!

Fleur de Pedesclaux

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

2015 vintage. With 74% Merlot (and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 6% Cabernet Franc), this is a world of difference compared to the 2022 ( 49% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot) tasted alongside. We switch from red fruit in the fully mature 2015, to the more black fruit personality of the 2022. While the 2015 is an attractive wine in a lighter style, it is no match for the more powerful and profound 2022,reflecting the impressive progress made here year after year since the Lorenzetti family took over. — 8 months ago

Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste

Saint Guirons Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1982

Cork came out in 3 pieces, but no cork pieces left in bottle. Color is still medium-red, very faint browning on edges, massive cedar and cigar box aromatics, some pencil lead as well shows on palate, medium-weight, lovely balance, long, lingering finish, great older Bordeaux. Purchased at release for a song ($125/case) still have 5 left, this is one of my all-time favorite Pauillacs in the “non-1st, non-super 2d” category, amazing juice!! — 8 months ago

I’m amazed you still have any left! I didn’t have the wherewithal to buy many 82s on release or as futures, but what little I didn’t last 10 years as delicious as they were from day 1.

@Tom Casagrande, I did buy a large slug of 1982s, and fortunately I stored them in a friend’s basement in Queens, so they were not easily accessible. And when we moved to California, I had them shipped out but they were stored in Napa, so a good hour drive with limited opening hours. That’s probably what saved the 5-7 cases of 1982s I have left from being consumed earlier. Cheers!!

Smoked citrus and crushed rock on the nose. Underripe fruit, limestone and wood on the palate that comes across with great balance. High quality wine given the price point. — 7 years ago

Moulin de Duhart

Pauillac Merlot - Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2021

Blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon & 19% Merlot, aged in new oak. Deep Ruby color with aromas of ripe berry fruits and floral and earthy spice notes. On the palate flavors of blueberry, cherry and blackberry with licorice, tobacco and toasty oak notes. Long rich finish on soft juicy tannins, drinking well and still has room to age. Very Nice! — 6 months ago

Château Batailley

Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

A very good left bank classed growth (5th growth) from a good vintage. Cabernet Sauvignon dominant aromatics (74%). Blackcurrant and cedar - a little tomato bush. A good wine but to state the obvious does not have the class and complexity of the higher classed growths. For example 3rd growth 2009 Chateau Palmer is a stunning wine - very rich, complex with a long life in front of it - very much superior to Chateau Batailley. — 4 months ago

@Somm David T i must apologise, but when we say Napoleon i only think of the guy sinking his hand in his jacket, the one that got defeated in Waterloo. Monsieur Napolene Bonaparte born in Corse. My bad, my views are limited. Napoleon the 3rd is indeed still a Napoleon...sorry😬

@Somm David T Thanks for your comments David. Yes, I can imagine any change to the Bordeaux classification would be very political and expensive with self interest often driving the ship. At the end of the day I guess it boils down to what the punters (us) are prepared to pay for any given bottle of wine regardless of its hierarchy in any classification. Eg. Is Leroy Musigny worth $50K? Or does it become the plaything of billionaires and 3rd world dictators who only buy it because of its inflated price? Probably a debate for another day!

@Bob McDonald @Ceccherini Cristiano I should have said the III. Just assumed it was implied. My bad as well. Bottle prices are quite insane lately and yes it is up to us what we paid. I would add that the wine industry is and has been challenged. More recent gen’s are not buying wine like my gen and there are no easy answers for the industry. We’ll see what happens w/ bottle prices going forward. Especially, given the rollercoaster markets. Good discussions. Cheers! 🍷
