The Marigny Single Vineyard Series Roots Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir 2015

Second bottle of this in as many weeks. This one was quite different than the first. Definitely a lot of VA in this one. Strong acetone smell for about the first 15 minutes but most of it eventually blew off. Less fruit-forward than the last bottle. — 6 years ago

Penfolds

Bin 8 South Australia Cabernet Shiraz 2011

This afternoon the wine I have decided to open was a Christmas gift from my parish priest. The 2011 Penfolds Bin 8 Cabernet Sauvignon - Shiraz blend, 62% Cab. Sauv. and 38% Shiraz.

On the nose is dark jammy fruit, black raspberry, black cherry, blueberry, prune, black currant, licorice, violet, lavender and graphite.

On the palate the dark fruit comes through but not jammy, blackberry, black cherry, boysenberry, cranberry, star anise and graphite.

A very silky smooth mouthfeel with medium acidity, medium granular tannins and a pleasingly medium finish.

Have a prosperous and healthy New Year. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷

Excellent wine. Matt Parish is one to watch. Huge dark fruit flavors, full body, and a brooding mix of tobacco and leather. Long finish. Highly recommend. — 5 years ago

It was a “rose” kind of night and this definitely fit the bill. Medium acid, strawberry on the nose and palate, modest minerality, and just overall sippin’ pleasure. — 6 years ago

Reserve The Pilot Hill Gang Matt Parish El Dorado County Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

This reserve release of the always superlative Pilot Hill Gang Cabernet Blend is labeled a Cabernet Sauvignon, so this one is at least 75% Cab, with the rest most likely Merlot. There is a bit of oak to the body, but not overmuch. The tannic structure is big; imagine Rutherford dust turned up to 11 😸 The overall flavor might be described as dried black currant and unsweetened dark chocolate. Perhaps there is a splash of Petit Verdot in the mix? Kudos Mr. Parish! — 6 years ago

Grand Reserve Cellared Annual Ale 2016

This is, honestly, the first beer I've ever had that I would call perfect. It passed my two tests for perfection: First, if it's not an IPA, would I rather be drinking an IPA? No. Second, would I rather be drinking wine (never, ever happens)? No.

If Toblerone made a beer, they could only dream it would turn out like this. Toffee, honeycomb, roasted almond, and so much stone fruit it's like sucking on a peach pit. Certainly the first time I can call hops seductive, evident, but well concealed, and eventually enveloping. What seals the deal though, is the absurdly creamy mouthfeel, like a satin pillow. For $15 there isn't anything from anywhere that is better.

@Scott Sonnier Thanks. I knew it was high alcohol, but I later realized it's 11% abv... impressed there wasn't any heat... didn't even find it boozy.
