For me set and setting plays a big part in my scoring.
Am I at work in a winemakers office?, am I at the cellar door on a beautiful Sunday with my wife?
Are there 10-20 wines on tasting for comparison?
On the day I scored it a 9.4, I'll revisit soon :)

You're spot on, Scott! Numerical scores are such a tricky thing and I, like you, find it near impossible to separate out the wine from the experience. (And confession: I also have a real soft spot for Tappanappa!) ;)
