Concentrated and powerful wine from the drought vintage of 2012 in Rioja. Torre de Ona is a project of La Rioja Alta using fruit from the northern part of the region. Notes of wild dark berries, cocoa, smoke, and anise dominate the nose. Palette exhibits strong acidity and ripe tannins with flavors evolving as the wine breathes. Combine fruit from 80 year old Tempranillo vines from the northern reaches of Rioja with one of the region’s best winemakers, and what do you get? Answer: a great traditional wine. Torre de Ona is a project of producer Rioja Alta using their northern-most vineyards. Raspberries, cranberries, red fruit, vanilla, coconut dominate the palate with a long layered finish. The long oak aging delivers silky, mature tannins that pull the wine together beautifully. The wine is less ripe with stronger acidity than other Riojas which delivers a unique and delightful character. Very well-made. 2014 vintage on Jun 16, 2019 — 6 years ago
