Obeisant and in absolute awe, I marvel at this ripened force of baked pear pastry, quince paste, and dry shortbread. Gah! I ache for rich sparkling like this and dream this must be about what the olde English wrote so fondly while we Americans were still siping sweet young things... I am listening to a wise pioneer who was there when the land was primeval before any touch combed stray strands to order (malty acacia and hazelnuts!), a tenacious type at a moment willing to sit down and share (a sinuous tree limb and wood smoke!), and then this sweet old biddie with Cognac on her breadth looks after us (lemon curd on soda bread, candied ginger, and powdered sugar on a lemon bar) -a wine in its prime and memorable -daresay haunting.
