This wine is a marvel of complexity that unfold as the minutes tick by. At first an herbal salt n pepper bomb it unfolds little by little like a delicate origami crane (clearly I’ve been crafting) to show its angles. A soundly linear wine with a...not quite a kick...but a huzzah in the bitter greens direction. And a bedrock of cola. Cherry cola. My favorite part of Pinot noir is the cola-leaden earth. Macerated black cherries hold down the fort. For all this complexity it is a straight shooting wine: the pal with a crazy life story who can distill information into NPR-worthy sound bites. It’s a beautiful babe that I think will hold up for years. Looking forward to seeing the flowers and earth in, say, 2021. — 7 years ago
Strawberry Citrus? Is that a thing? It is for this wine! If you can find it, buy a bunch, your glass will be empty quite quickly.
On the Lawn at Tanglewood tonight for our first (non-classical) show of the season. Tonight is NPR's live taping of Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me! Expect to hear me clapping somewhere in the background. The WWDTM team should have the show on the air by either this weekend or the following.

Favorite of a spring tasting with the winemaker - I slepped this wine all the way to Germany to drink it with the head of NPR News/Germany/SWR. A very good wine which traveled well raspberry/cherry nose. Rather more cherry than raspberry on the palate very Burgundian very elegant very classy, impressive! Still very good even with all the changes, airplane travel via Dallas, London, Munich and the Autobahn at 138 Miles per hour. No bottle shock superb. — 9 years ago
Nothing better than a Cabernet Franc rosé! The dusty notes follow through even in this style, acid is comfortable and easy going. This bottle is like a sweater on a chilly summer solstice evening, always welcome!
