Tangerine, less flinty than expected, prickly pear, great mineral notes, firm acid. Young Drank at Blvd — 11 years ago

2002 vintage. Fairly and surprisingly on the darker side of medium ruby. On the nose, rich and coffeed. Ripe black fruited. Sweet smelling. On the nose, bit of a hammer to crack a nut. Seems over extracted. Good concentration and very long. But tannins are big and round and the wine is unbalanced for me. Drink now until 2030+. — 10 years ago

At Batard in NYC. Decanted. Nice aged ruby color. Sweet nose including ripe berries, mushroom, forest floor and some spice. Good mouth feel that lasts long enough to give you the terroir impact. Really like the finish. This was on the wine list at two restaurants in NYC this week and both somms said this was a recent direct release from the domaine. So good provenance and a good showing for a so so vintage. — 11 years ago
