The old vine bottling from Monsieur Dutraive hails from a parcel of sixty-five to seventyfive year-old vines and is raised entirely in Burgundy barrels, ranging from one to five years of age, so there is a little wood influence to this cuvée. The 2013 is outstanding, offering up a deep and nascently complex bouquet of cherries, raspberries, coffee, gamebird, lovely soil tones, spice elements redolent of clove and mace, a bit of mustard seed and a nice touch of cedary new wood. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and youthfully structured, with a sappy core, fine soil signature and a bit of tannin to resolve on the long, youthful finish. This is emphatically not a classic style of Fleurie, but it is an extremely well-made wine whose inspiration seems to be as much Vosne-Romanée as it is Fleurie. The focus and balance here are impeccable and I see no reason this wine will not age superbly well, and for those who are looking for a gateway Fleurie to make the transition from the Côte d’Or to Cru Beaujolais, this is a perfect wine! 2017-2030+. - John Gilman

La Côte Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2013

The 2013 La Côte is a brilliant young bottle of Sancerre. Monsieur Boulay only began producing a single vineyard bottling from La Grande Côte in the 2010 vintage, as these are some of his younger vines, and until the celebrated their twentieth birthday in 2010, he felt that they were simply still too young to be bottled on their own. The 2013 La Côte is brilliant, wafting from the glass in a stunning mélange of grapefruit, lemon, kaleidoscopic minerality, petrol, complex botanicals, a touch of smokiness and a topnote of citrus peel. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and again simply shows off stunning mid-palate depth for the vintage, with brisk acids, laser-like focus and great grip on the pure and dancingly long finish. Great, great wine. 2016-2035+. - Jon Gilman

Vin de Pays des Côtes de Gascogne 2012

Since the 2007 vintage, this has been my informal "house red" (informal, because it's not going to be a perfect paring with everything). The 2012 (I have one bottle left) is concentrated, black fruit and minerality, and wonderfully aromatic. This is organically-farmed tannat, cabernet franc, merlot, and Monsieur Bozzi has a few rows of syrah planted as well. The small winery receives its barrels (one-used) from Vega Sicilia in Spain through the consulting oenologist, Stéphane Beuret. — 10 years ago

Les Vireuils Meursault Chardonnay 2008

This is not Chardonnay but it is Meursault and in great form! Kaleidoscopic in aroma and flavor. Fresh, linear, crazy complex and intense yet elegant at the same time, a melange of fresh citrus and apples, with seashell and mineral cut. The vibrancy and energy on this wine is insane but not if your are used to Monsieur #Roulot — 11 years ago
