CA style nose. Very dry and shorter on the palate. Tannins and dry ing on the tongue. Cotton mouth. An Italian wine through and through. I do still like it though. — 8 years ago
Tawny purple, dark and almost opaque. Exotic huge nose with notes of bright cherry fruit, rhubarb, Asian spice, sandalwood, tilled wet soil and some kind of herb. Rich in the mouth. Expands and coats the palate. Everything you want in a red burg. Nice to see a 96 move past that acidity and deliver all around pleasure. — 9 years ago
Wow... So many flavors in this wine. It's quite a treat to your mouth. Smooth with a great mid taste and a long finish — 10 years ago
A Clape. Firm, light ruby in the glass. Briary dried brush and black berry in the nose. Round and pleasing in the mouth. Ok finish. Likely past its peak but still enjoyable. — 11 years ago
The essence of ripe cherries and strawberries invade every nook and cranny of this wine. Extremely silky and smooth in the mouth which produces a finish that reminded me of the horizon when you are looking out from the deck of a boat, just does not quit. — 11 years ago
1998 vintage. Earthy and roasted almond. Ripe lemon rind. Full bodied. Rich mouth feel. Mocha. Acidity not overbearing - touch light? Long concentrated finish. Excellent — 11 years ago
Beautiful wine, rich great mouth feel. Perfect with a great steak. Only 3 bottles left but I'll wait another year before the next one. — 12 years ago
This was incredible, golden nectar, honey, apricot, slight clove. Coats the mouth and leaves a long finish. So wonderful. — 7 years ago
Dark ruby, bright, doesn’t look it’s age. Awesome funky old Cal Cab nose. Notes of cherry, cranberry sauce, dirt and some balsa wood. Some steminess. Great perfume. Nice in the mouth but missing just a little bit in the mid palate. Really enjoyed this. — 8 years ago
When we open from 1987, we expect everything. One thinks of its conservation in cellar, the risk that it is passed or incredible, with the tannins having evolved in this vial ... The cork pulled-out, in perfect state and one knows in advance that one hit the jackpot and that it will be phenomenal. A coppery robe, a complex nose with aromas of black and floral fruits. In the mouth, an explosion of flavors that take the length and makes us go back in time. A very large estate for an incredible wine, to fall 😍🍷 — 8 years ago
This has beautiful aromas of plums , dark cherries and pepper plus maybe a little cedar. All of that exploded in your mouth with touches of tobacco, leather, ripe dark fruits and a bit of licorice that mix with wonderful tannins and dance a ballet in your mouth. Smooth and sexy finish. I can't wait to revisit the 2010 in five to seven years to see how it develops. — 10 years ago
This 2008 was cellared for almost five years after purchased in 2012. Consumed Nov 2015, the best way to describe this delight is that "it melts in your mouth". You do not even feel it as it goes down, the taste begins with its scents as soon as it hits your palate. Delightfully fruity with cherry, blackberry and jam. — 11 years ago
Crazy good paired with dipping into gamba al ajillo (emphasis added), at Napa's groovy/real Zuzu, catching a classic deeply dirty nose while still sporting sun-drenched fruit that initially reworks one's first blush front mouth with an iodine edge that morfs into red and black fruit edgy with acid/tannin slow dancing to the depths and begging for another pinch of broth soaked chewy freshly baked bread and the associated next swig of this sweet juice...rhythmically stellar by day or by night😎🌌👣🍷🌀🎼
PS hit Zuzu (friendly, delicious and real...

Informal gathering to drink some Bordeaux varietal bottles with steak.
1986 Cheval Blanc: This one showed suspect ullage, to the point where it had been hard to flip it. And in the end, it did turn out to be a controversial wine--was the orgasm 40 days, or was it 36 days? Hard to say... An extraordinary wine, classic in its own way, with fragrant dark flower and black cassis aromas wafting from the glass, and maybe more importantly for us, exploding in the mouth. Some of the more ordinary adjectives, like "smooth" and "balanced", are accurate enough, but obviously don't do this one justice. One could do a fluid dynamical description of the time evolution of this wine in the mouth, a broad attack that gave way in about 3 seconds to a sensation of acceleration and flaring across the entire breadth of the palate as the wine detonated, an oenological version of a jet... And then a persistent finish where the inner mouth perfume resonates as it fades slowly (or simply moved off to some parallel universe). — 11 years ago
I mean, it’s Caymus. — 7 years ago
Tasted blind. Tawny color, translucent with amber rims. Notes of black cherry, cedar, some spice and a little barnyard floor. Sweet fruit in the mouth, with tannins fully resolved. Guessed 1955 Calon Segur. Perfect looking bottle, the cork revealed this bottle was reconditioned by the Chateau in 2000. — 8 years ago
Tasted blind. Brownish tawny. Transparent and thin. A nose that brings a smile. Exotic. Notes of cherries, roses, Asian spice, rhubarb, soil and some Cuban cigar. Really nice in the mouth but finish is a bit thin, owing to its age. Guessed 66 DRC Echezeau (on a role with the guesses!) — 8 years ago
Tasted blind. Light gold. Chablis characteristics. Bright honey, lemon, apricot and ripe fruit nose. Lots of acidity in the mouth. Great wine but other bottles of this have been a little better. — 9 years ago
Dark red/purple to red rim. Red apple skin, rose, dried sour cherry on nose after 30 minutes in the glass, more iron and paint thinner when first opened. Medium acidity, waves of iron, earth and spice in the mouth, subtle fruit, slightly bitter and peppery finish. — 10 years ago

This was delicious, dull mouth feel, nice fruit well balanced and a gorgeous garnet color very easy drinking — 11 years ago
Perfectly integrated, complex nose and great mouth. I got surprised how concentrated it still is. — 11 years ago

Last night in MT at the lake. Gave this several hours of air. Nice dark tawny color. Vibrant in the glass. The nose is great right away and stayed on point through the evening. Notes of black cherries, warm raspberries, old cedar, some plums and a little leather saddle. Rich and silky in the mouth. Velvet glove. Long finish. Great wine. — 7 years ago
