Castaño Prado Vineyards Albariño 2016

Was highly skeptical of trying a cheap Texas wine, but was pleasantly surprised. Albariño is one of my favorite white grape varietals, and after learning that Spanish and Portuguese grapes do particularly well in the Texas climate thought I’d give it a shot. Crisp, very refreshing, Happy 4th! — 7 years ago

@Shay A I’ve seen your post about Ron Yates, really want to give his wines a try. Met some guys at an Austrian/German wine shop in Fredericksburg, and they gave me a list of smaller wineries that they say are worth checking out next time I’m down there. Had no idea that a majority of grapes are grown out towards Lubbock. Cheers

@Arden Barnett : My wife and I did a visit down there last spring and found some neat wineries. Kuhlman Cellars and Calais Winery were standouts. Happy to share some bottles if/when we meet up. You should come to Classic Wine Storage one day when we have a group up there...it’s quite the event.

@Shay A both of those are on my list! I believe Jack and Ben talked a few weeks ago about getting a wine dinner going later this month. I will talk to Jack and we will try and get something setup soon. Y’alls get togethers at Classic Wine always look amazing.

Didn't quite live up to the hype, maybe needed more time in the crystal, but nice black cherry/plum and some licorice, tannins still hanging around, and at 14% legs like Elle McPherson. — 9 years ago

Laneway Shiraz 2015

On a journey through Aussie wine and thoroughly enjoying it! Young and bright, but definitely my jam. This one is from Victoria, which is new for me. It has the Smokey earthy qualities of Barossa, with brighter fruit and acid. The label is actually a great sum of the wine itself. Very colorful, graffiti like character, youthful, and full throttle. I'd like to come back to this one after it sits in the bottle a little and I think due to the alcohol it needs to decant an hour plus to let a little of the heat evaporate out, but this stuff otherwise was excellent. — 7 years ago

A lot of thought and planning goes into this collaboration with McPherson Cellars, I'm beyond thrilled to finally have this baby in bottle. So thrilled, it's a NoFX, crazy puppy, pizza and Texan-Rhone night. Couldn't be happier. — 9 years ago

9.5 really? I am exited for the great country of TX to have its own bottling. Can't wait to try this OS wine. Great post.

Stylistically on point with DP's other wines, not lacking in fruit or elegance, lower alc than CA bottlings. Completely delightful. As a side note, Locations isn't OS wine, it's a separate Phinney project.

Thanks. I'm very familiar with DP's location wines. I've served cases E2 and E3 with my paellas over the last couple of years. Those and D66 I'll serve to the snobbiest of winos. I've had most of the locations except for P AR and TX. They are fun to serve for friends and keeps them happy. Can't wait to try the TX though.
