2004. Surprising for a Barbera. Yes, it had acidity, but the acidity had mellowed over the years. Less fruity than a typical Barbera and with more earthiness. Strong with the Funghi pizza at Marta and with the Rabbit Meatballs. Great suggestion by Brian (one of the somms). Also, a good deal: Delectable says the retail price is around $65 for current release and $50 for the 2004. List price at Marta was only $72! — 10 years ago

2011 vintage. Weingut Daniel & Marta Grantenbein Chardonnay 2011 - from Jay. Quick note/thought on this Swiss Chardonnay from Graubunden - Roasted hazelnuts - honey suckle - white acacia - crushed rocks - beautiful nose - very PM in style on the nose but with greater energy/tension. Very good acidity / well integrated. Lovely poise with good attack. Great minerality - altogether a fabulous expression of Chardonnay. Good finish. Lovely little cracker of a wine. A lovely find but virtually impossible to source within Switzerland let alone outside (2.3 acres under vine in total for the Chardonnay). 93/100. — 10 years ago
