Cousiño Macul’s Premium wine, intense black currant notes, chocolate and mint with a vanilla and slightly bitter tobacco finish with some oaky notes. Well...I must say that this was one of the more surprising wines I’ve had in a while. Picked up from the bargain-bin at the local Hy-Vee for $9. After opening, it was a bit tedious and, to be honest, I didn’t think it was going to come around. We didn’t finish the bottle so just stuffed the cork back in the bottle and stuck it in the basement. The next day, I wasn’t particularly excited to revisit the bottle but I’m so pleased that I did. Cassis, tobacco, baking spices, leather, and graphite on the nose. Cassis, dark cherry and earth on the palate. The structure propped it all up very well. Long-ish finish...I just didn’t expect this from a 7 year-old grocery store wine. Good with food or on its own. Should last until 2021. — 6 years ago
