Viña Tarapacá

Gran Reserva Valle del Maipo Carménère 2015

Dark ruby red color. Strong smells of fresh pepper, salsa, pomegranate, and smoke. Pretty healthy tannins with tastes of cherries, plums, minerals, bell peppers, cigar box, and vanilla. Will be pairing with a bowl of chicken chili in an effort to compliment but not overwhelm the peppers. — 4 years ago

Reserve Maipo Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Love this! A surprisingly uncabby cab. Not too sweet, not too buttery, hits all the right notes. — 6 years ago

Medium body and dried with touch of fruit. My favorite well balanced. Very value for money. — 6 years ago

Cousiño-Macul

Lota Maipo Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2006

Cousiño Macul’s Premium wine, intense black currant notes, chocolate and mint with a vanilla and slightly bitter tobacco finish with some oaky notes. This is a big wine, better decanted and needs some food to compliment it. Modern new world wine, but after over a decade in bottle quite balanced and good to drink now. — 6 years ago

Youthful and vibrant. Fresh black currant, mint, gravelly earthy notes, quite Margaux/Graves like. Smoky cedar, tobacco and dust. Medium bodied, with grainy tannin, good vibrant acid. Quite elegant for Chile! — 9 years ago

Primus Maipo Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

Well...I must say that this was one of the more surprising wines I’ve had in a while. Picked up from the bargain-bin at the local Hy-Vee for $9. After opening, it was a bit tedious and, to be honest, I didn’t think it was going to come around. We didn’t finish the bottle so just stuffed the cork back in the bottle and stuck it in the basement. The next day, I wasn’t particularly excited to revisit the bottle but I’m so pleased that I did. Cassis, tobacco, baking spices, leather, and graphite on the nose. Cassis, dark cherry and earth on the palate. The structure propped it all up very well. Long-ish finish...I just didn’t expect this from a 7 year-old grocery store wine. Good with food or on its own. Should last until 2021. — 6 years ago

Marqués de Casa Concha Maipo Valley Syrah 2013

8 years ago

Bought this for the first time at Costco for a very reasonable price. Happily satisfied with it and will purchase it again, but I see on here that is sold out. CRAP!!!! — 8 years ago

Don't trust that it is sold out from what they say on here. Often it is sold out from the vineyards stock but distributors still have it out there. And sometimes the vineyards have bottle but the distributor does not.
