Full-bodied, with plums and sour cherries on the palate. Tannins carry the flavors, but the acid is not forward. — 6 years ago
Splendid Wine! — 6 years ago
Usual lovely balance that you get in Lagrein Riserva. Missing out on some of the fruit and presence in the mouth that you get with the Muri Gries — 8 years ago
Paul Hobbs did it again, excellent blend Malbec and Cab Sav — 9 years ago
Nice, full flavor, but not that much better than the less expensive syrahs I’ve had lately — 5 years ago
This is really nice. From a warm climate in NC I am impressed and surprised. Such a step up from 2016/2017. Minerality and green apple with a nice crisp acidic finish. Really well done. — 6 years ago
Enjoyed on September 15, 2019. 2018 vintage — 6 years ago
Time to mix in a wine from our Cellar Door host, Gabrielskloof.
The nose is, lemon curd, lime, white peach, pineapple, some grassy notes, light herbaceous, fruit blossoms, vanilla, honey notes, very soft and understated, beautiful minerals with spring flowers, yellow lilies in mixed greens.
The body is full, round and thick. lemon curd, lime, white peach, pineapple, some grassy notes, light herbaceous, fruit blossoms, vanilla, honey notes, white spice, very soft and understated, beautiful minerals with spring flowers, yellow lilies in mixed greens. High acidity. The rich, lush, elegant finish is delicious and persistent for minutes.

Such a good merlot - nice acid and flavor. This is one of my favorite NC wineries - that is doing great things! — 7 years ago
Great experience tasting the lineup of wines with new Chief Winemaker, Felipe Stahlschmidt, many gems to talk about but I'll focus on 2013 Magdalena (80% Malbec & 20% Cabernet Sauvignon) 100% French oak. Only 300 cases. This wine incorporates Paul Hobbs' (consultant for Pascual Toso) best 23 Oak Barrel selection of Malbec and is considered "his baby". Nuanced raspberry and blueberry fruit with smoky espresso and dark chocolate notes that are held together with dignified tannins w/ a prodigious finish :-) — 9 years ago
Clean red/blue fruit with touch of earth. Not particularly complex. — 5 years ago
I tried both the 18 and 19 and liked both, but bought the 18. I was surprised to like the 18 more given the vintage, but I guess that’s why we shouldn’t assume before tasting! — 5 years ago
2017 blend. This is really well done. Nice acid subtle tannins and oak. a blend that smacks you in the face with flavor and lingers on the tongue at the finish. — 6 years ago
Sitting outside with my lovely at the office prior to a Magdalena event and enjoying this wonderful Viognier from Seth Kunin. Part of his wine club and will never cancel — 7 years ago
So good. Top three winery for me in NC. A lot of funk in the aroma. Maybe some Brett but doesn’t come through in the taste. — 7 years ago
