Lucky Well Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014

I've liked all the Arista pinots and chardonnay I've had. This is no exception. Full body. Strawberries. Lush. These drink really well young. Not sure how they will do as they age. — 10 years ago

Viñedos Errázuriz Ovalle

Lucky Goat Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

This made me realize as a novice wine drinker that dirt makes all the difference. Chile has a distinct way to bring out the parts of a grape that you feeling in the back of your mouth. A great fun CabSav. Best shared in one sitting. — 11 years ago

Lagunitas Brewing Company

Lucky 13 Red Ale

Lagunitas crushed it with this Red. Before I got into IPAs, ambers were my thing. This one is off the charts good. If you are a big Fat Tire fan, you may not appreciate the higher IBUs and ABV. If you are someone who likes both IPAs and Ambers, you're going to friggin love this. Makes me teary eyed to think this is a limited release and yet Buttweiper continues to exist. — 10 years ago

Château Margaux

Premier Grand Cru Classé Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 1954

With a 2" depressed cork and questionable fill, we were all hesitant with our expectations, to say the least. Let me be clear: this wine was beautiful. Such an experience to taste a 61 year old wine that still has life in it. Liquid music, poetry you can taste, or whatever artistic production you want to draw upon, this wine was as captivating as a live performance. This was light garnet in color without any brown, with open aromas of soy sauce, cranberry jam, truffle, potting soil, dried prune, green tea, and black coffee, the wine's structure said Here, let me show you these flavors, like a welcoming dinner party host who isn't over-trodden about anything that just puts you at ease. Wines like this are art in a bottle. — 11 years ago

What a treat. From the company to the antics of the cork removal, all was fantastic. Not surprised with some immediate mustiness on the nose, giving way to a rich but smooth aged blue cheese, mushrooms, soy sauce, earth, and just a faint hint of dried red fruit. Over the next 20 minutes the glass development was out of control, changing with each and every whiff and sip. Earthy umami, oxidative, and and slightly stewed reds to begin quickly opened to nice dried strawberries on the palate and nose, and advancing to moderately subdued ripened strawberries and cranberries- after 61 years and still kickin with fruit! Amazing. Then after about 20 minutes of rapid metamorphosis, it gave in and decided to fade to a very pleasant sipper...awesome.

Château Cheval Blanc

St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2007

Pierre Lurton dropped by the shop today with this bottle (among others - lucky me)! Fresh and vivacious. 53% Cab Franc & 47% Merlot. Cool green Franc character really shines without occupying the field. Fine, elegant tannins lend beautiful bone structure. I'm sure this will age forever, but I thought it was drinking spectacularly well today. — 10 years ago
