Love Cork Screw

Weingut Berger

Estate Grüner Veltliner 2013

As my family is from Austria, I was eager to try this wine. It comes in 1L size with a bottle cap not a cork or screw top. It was delightful with cheeses. A zing on the tongue. Would definitely drink with light meals and snacks! Refreshing. — 11 years ago

La Stella

Allegretto Okanagan Valley Merlot 2007

Wine showed extremely well and opened up beautifully over the course of 2hrs. Recommend decanting and allowing at least 30min+ before consuming. Lots of dark cherry, dark chocolate, delicate spice notes on the palate. Soft yet full mouth-feel. Tannins are soft, integrated and very approachable. This wine is still well on the youthful side but showing the benefits of bottle age. My guess is this wine easily has at least 3 to 5 years of youthfulness. Curious to see if it develops a bit more complexity with time. Would love to pull another cork in 5 to 8yrs. Fantastic showing for BC wine or any region for that matter. — 12 years ago

Cantina del Pino

Dolcetto d'Alba 2013

Many can get down with this dolcetto. Light tannin, good acidity. Strawberry, rosemary and clove. I could see myself eating a bowl of Mediterranean mussels with this. Solid choice. Oh and I love the glass cork! — 11 years ago

Giaconda

Pinot Noir 2004

This wine has the potential to be very good, but at only 10 years under Stelvin, it is still a baby. Makes one wish for a real cork. The nose is a very appealing funky and earthy mess of plums and black cherries. The wine is dark, about as dark as Pinot gets. On the palate, it is exuberantly lively. A piercing acidity leads into a sweet-tart cherry and red raspberry fruit profile. The finish is extremely long. This is a wine of great precision, yet one which has not yet shed its baby fat and one wonders if it ever will under the screw cap. The fruit and acid are still a bit disjoint and raw. Should age for years. — 12 years ago

Plumpjack

Reserve Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 1997

This boxed two-pack of '97 PlumpJack Cabernet Sauvignon 'Reserve' came with one Cork Closure and one Stelvin Closure to compare their aging development. Both bottles tasted side-by-side had the same opaque ruby color, similar aromas of earthy cassis, menthol and toasty oak and comparable brawny flavors of black raspberry and currant. The screw-cap bottle, however, seemed richer, sweeter and fruitier, but with more tannic grip, while the cork version seemed softer, more evolved and slightly more complex. A most interesting experiment! — 12 years ago
