Wet towel, funk, spices and fruit emerging. A bit cloudy but as it opens, the body and length are amazing.
As it opens its clear this is a baby. It needs at least a 2-3 hour decant to bring out its full expression. This is elegant, but has plenty of power. Can age easily another 10 years. — 9 years ago
Magnum 1991 Joseph Phelps Insignia CS. Dinner at T w neighbors. Drank alongside the '90 Latour out of magnum. We didn't decant this as long as the Latour and out of the gate, this wine was a little tight. However, by the end of dinner, this was the clear winner. Just held up and got better as the night progressed. — 9 years ago
Super bright, clear wine, lighter bodied. Wonderful melon, lemongrass, passion fruit and white pepper nose. Green melon, passion fruit, peach, ginger and some herb notes I'm struggling to identify beyond the lemon grass, maybe tomato leaf? Passion fruit comes through nicely on the finish. Really pleased with this one! — 9 years ago
Past peak but still some nice cassis fruit and acid in there to go along with smokey forest floor notes. Clear quality as elegance. — 10 years ago
Fresh, slightly green (stems?), primary. Warm fermentation? Quite lean on the palate. A bit more fruit would help. Very clear but a bit lacking in beauty or lushness. — 10 years ago
Perfect. Sweetness layer and integrated. The wine was out of bounds with great length and it's clear this can go another 30 years. Orange marmalade with penetrating silky mineralty this wine was perfect in any way we measure greatness. — 10 years ago
Beringer Clear Lake Zinfandel 2012. Light rubin red colour, tobacco, blackcurrant leaf, black spice, liquorice, red grape and asparagus. Balanced, high alcohol, high acidity, smooth and pronounced velvety tannins, medium high body. — 11 years ago
I opened this wine on 3/17/2013 for my new born son's homecoming dinner. this 37 years + wine is incredibly structure. The color of course is brownish but surprisingly clear with very little sentiment. The nose is spicy and oaky. On the tongue, a youthful peppery spicy follow by a caramel and almond note. 1/2 an hour later, the spice soften up, the almond note and a hint of slight burn sugar is in perfect balance. It could probably hold up for a few more year but it is a great time to open it. — 13 years ago
This is a classic! Decanted for 3 hrs. Clear watery hue, beautiful pale Garnett in the middle. Medium viscosity, medium alcohol. On the nose, red cherry, strawberries, flowers, spices - thyme, clove, wet cigar, wet leaves. On the palate, confirmed red cherries, strawberries and powerful/rigid but silky tannins and racy acidity to balance it all. Long earthy finish. Elegant yet tough...like a ballerina! Very well balanced and serious wine from a good producer. This is their entry level Barbaresco that punches above its weight for what it costs. Stocking up.. this will drink even better in 5 years. — 6 years ago
Mid Lemon in colour. Crystal clear. Aromas of vanilla oak, grapefruit and nectarine with toasty notes. Amazing length of flavour with pronounced intensity and citric flavours. Living up to its billing of Australia's top Chardonnay from a good vintage in the West. — 9 years ago

Islay style and in an old fashioned - yum. Warning - extra smoky! — 10 years ago
Giving absolute credence to the reputation that the wines from the Margaux commune show, both displayed an elegance allied with a subtle power and perfect balance, especially 2005.
2000 had a trace pyrazine note that I found unexpected, and quite frankly not that enjoyable. Outside of that the wine was perfect. The second bottle did not throw it as strong, so not exactly in the clear on this night.
The 2005 was in perfect shape, drink now or age it another 20 years easy, this was so enjoyable and balanced with perfect tannin integration and a seamless, dense and pure finish that sailed on forever.

Appearance: clear, deep ruby with tears. Nose: clean, pronounced, developing aroma of herbal, mint, black fruits, black pepper, leather, cedar, and spice. Palate: dry, medium high acidity, medium high alcohol, medium high body, medium high flavor intensity of herbal, spice, black pepper, and black fruits with medium long finish. Very good wine, good for further aging. — 10 years ago
It's young, no doubt about that. Might wait 5 years to open the next one... A lovely pure, greenish hue, fine, crystal clear; toast all the way - still closed but alluring; rounded and balanced, with good acidity. The fruit and sugar are present but well hidden. This will go on and on - a Bruce Forsyth like virility will keep this up for decades... — 11 years ago
Excellent bottle. The 01 is supposedly a better vintage but im not sure when it comes to this producer. Clear, day bright, garnet and orange brick like color, medium - concentration, orange/peach rim variation, slight sediment, low viscosity. Nose: sound, moderate intensity, stewed cherries/strawberries/raspberries, floral, spicy and lots of dill pickle and slight game. A mushroom note as well. Palate: dry, med- body, stewed plums over ripe cherries/strawberries, lilies, dill, vinegar, leather, button mushrooms, game, mulch with some cedar and coconut. Very complex. Med- tannins, medium alcohol, high acid, long finish. Between the 01 and the 98 its a tough choice of which one to put in the wine cooler to store. — 12 years ago
Clear, deep garnet; almost black colour. Clean, pronounced black fruits, red berries, liquorice and aniseed on the nose. Dry, exquisitely balanced tannins and acidity. Very full bodied with a long finish. Flavours of blackcurrant, liquorice, mocha and a quite sweet fruitiness. Outstanding wine. — 6 years ago

Cheap and serviceable, like my ass. Blends with spicy sauciness well. Not as chocolatey as before, which is a good thing. Good fruit notes. — 9 years ago

Clear expression of soil and salt in this one. Paired with everything on our menu (earlier) brilliantly with both weight and acidity. — 11 years ago
Clear, fading ruby color. Purple highlights of yourh. Nose is pure bliss! Warm cherries, pits, earth, sappy, tart cranberry. Medium body (surprising weight), low tannins, acid medium. Light, luscious red fruit with some hints of dark cherry. Very pretty! Very feminine! Very good! Drink or hold. — 11 years ago
