Still alive. Speaking in whispers rather than shouting. Kinda like a cool, youthful, grandpa.

Some fruit left, mostly dried. Tertiary notes abound: caramel, toffee, earthiness. Super resolved tannin and still some acid.

Not at all. It certainly had some savory/tomato leaf notes but they were balanced by fruit and spice. It was legitimately enjoyable.

Holding up beautifully (for being from the in my mind over-rated 1997 vintage) with a soft, elegant structure that suggests some Merlot must have been included.
A very nice showing that should continue to drink well for another 5 years.
2nd day: Tasted again after 24 hours open and still drinking well. — 10 years ago
