RBS Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Another example of a young Napa cab that is open for business and shouting delicious from the rooftop. In the past I've tasted young at the winery and then I let it sit in my cellar for a good long time. My head is turning and I'm coming around to the joys of youth. Like the 2013 Lokoya I had recently this was singing. Smooth entry, deep dark expressive fruit, graphite, long beautiful finish. Appreciated @Michael Meyer — 8 years ago

A joy to share. You would have loved the '09 Ovid that Scott opened at the end of the night. Right in the same vein as the RBS.

Anakota

Helena Montana Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

This one I felt was missing something. I expect something with this label to dominate and compared to what else was there tonight, it was just rather timid. Still had some rather nice black fruits on the nose and on the palate, but thankfully this one wasn't mine. A little flat in the middle. Nice blackberry nose and palate. The finish is a little on the stiff side. I just think this one needs another 2-3 years in the bottle for it to wake back up again. I think it was in a funky place. Very enjoyable and I would definitely not snub this one if it was the only one on the table (quite the opposite, actually). This one tasted with a 2012 Pott Franc, a 2014 Bevan Ontogeny, a 1997 Lokoya Diamond Mtn, and a Barnett 2010 Rattlesnake Hill Cab. Nice wine.....I just think it would be better on another day. — 7 years ago

I think Mark is spot on noting that this one was just straight up overshadowed by everything else. Seems to be going through a dormant type period. I thought the front and mid palate were both lacking. Haven't had anything from Anakota except this, and knowing the name, I expected more. But, I'm sure this is just a timing issue than it is a wine issue.

Opened this magnum for Christmas dinner. The first La Jota vintage finished by renowned winemaker Christopher Carpenter (Cardinale, Lokoya). Large format aging beautifully. Round tannins, dark fruit, and earth. — 7 years ago

Been working my way through a vertical of these, and this one was another Howell mountain. Great balance, great acid, and great fruit. My favorite so far, but there are three other mountains to go in 2012 — 8 years ago

Wine usually expands after opening and decanting. This one is contracting and getting a bit thinner on the finish than was the case on the first sip. I will see where this one goes before deciding on re/rating it

Diamond Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon 1999

Quite dark colored. Young nose with fruits, spices, fresh grass and strength can be felt. On the palate it’s balanced between the fruit flavors and the oak well integrated by the way, long finish and no heaviness. Excellent (91) — 9 years ago
