A group of guys decided to meet up at our Wine Storage facility and bust out some unique bottles! Scores and notes to follow!
I have two of these courtesy of the man, the myth, the legend, @Martin G Rivard . WOW. Out of the 15+ wines that were opened tonight, this was easily in the top half, if not near the top 5. Intoxicating nose. Cork was basically black. Blueberry compote and blackberry preserves on the nose. Vanilla and plum finish. Hands down the best mixed black wine I've tasted to date. Martin, THANK YOU! — 8 years ago
Decent, but the legend of Heidi wasn't shown here to it's fullest. I had the Amuse Bouche 2014 Horizontal together. Very linear, with florals throughout start to finish. The Syrah was greatly suppressed, with Merlot taking front and center, but lacked the velvety texture I would hope for from that style. — 9 years ago
Throwback to thanksgiving, this was an incredible, pauillac-like bottle that was graphite-driven upon opening, but got darker, deeper, and fuller over a couple of hours, showing complex development of blackcurrant jam, tobacco, and leather. A legend that lived up to expectations! — 9 years ago
Not our favourite sipping wine, but very good with our roast — 9 years ago

Like seeing an old friend. First winery I ever visited (I was 5), and is always one of my favorite places to visit. Wines are better than ever and Paul Draper is simply a legend. — 10 years ago

Best Crimean wine of 2014. — 11 years ago
Solid and respectable; Clos Rougeard always is. But the closure of the vineyard has created a legend that no real-world wine can live up to. Drink the wine, not the hype. — 7 years ago
Strega is an interesting Italian liqueur...better described below. I only sporadically enjoy it, but it's fun and tasty at each sip.
"Strega is an herbal, saffron-infused liqueur deeply tied to the secret world of witchcraft. Witches are said to convene in Benevento to perform rituals and honor Il Noce, the sacred walnut tree. (The lower part of the logo shows witches dancing with demons around Il Noce.) According to legend, Giuseppe Alberti, son of a grocer, saved a witch from falling out of a tree in the woods. In gratitude, she gave him the recipe for an elixir, which the Alberti family began selling in 1860, perhaps as a curative or restorative.
The liqueur's proprietary recipe is a mix of 70 herbs and spices which include Ceylon cinnamon, Florentine iris, Italian Apennine juniper, Samnite mint, fennel, and saffron. Saffron is the key to Strega's signature yellow color and it shares the spotlight with mint and juniper as the most pronounced flavors within the herbal mixture." — 7 years ago
Can you say WOW! Thank you Sierra Foothills! What a great honest blend. Such nice structure, flavor, & balance. Dark berries, hints of chocolate & vanilla. Such an smooth finish. Why did I wait so long to try this! Recommendation 10+ — 9 years ago
I had the pleasure of interviewing Ivo Jeramaz on my last visit to Napa Valley. He's the nephew of winemaking legend, Mike Grgich and has taken the lead in much of the wineries day-to-day operations along with Mike's daughter, Violet. Ivo is a quiet and thoughtful in his speech—and his wines seem to reflect this. The 2012 Merlot is carmine-hued, and is more transparent than most Merlot I've encountered from Napa Valley. It possesses a kind of quiet restraint and lovely finesse with nuanced aromas of red currant, pie cherries, dried herbs and underbrush intertwining fine tannins a tart acidity. 14.0% ABV | Sample

2006 and 2007 magnum GGs side by side! These two epic bottles were the stuff of legend with the 06 showing more forward momentum and complexity, while its 07 counterpart seemed to sit and brood in its obvious youthfulness... Both were sublime, but the 06 is the one to drink and get all hedonistic over while the 07 slumbers happily. #Keller #Hubacker #grossesgewächs #GG #Riesling — 10 years ago
Sundried tomatoes with some dried oregano and herbs. Little bit of olives. Acid is nice. Sole cranberry sandal wood and Rose hips contrast and no so subtle mineralality. The kekfrankos is the Same as the blaufrankisch. 1530s the bull's blood wine. The story goes that the people were surrounded, drank all the wine and charged an attack against the Ottoman Empire. Killed the head of the snake and they scattered. Not sure if the legend is true but it's The only town in the Ottoman Empire area that has been left pristine. 😏 regardless it's a darn good wine — 10 years ago
Delicious sweet desert wine, I would probably drink the whole bottle of it if someone would let me :) — 10 years ago
Wine Review: When visiting this all red wine focused winery on Lake Seneca, owner Kate Thomas told me this was their Wednesday wine. After trying it, I would say this very easy to drink wine could be your everyday wine. This wine opens with a mild light berry bouquet. On the palate, this wine is very well balanced, smooth, approachable, and had juicy cherry flavors. This wine finishes slightly dry and lingers for a while. This wine is a good food wine that would pair well with many foods. This is a great value wine that you would enjoy throughout the fall. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: In the toolbox it is the crescent wrench, in the kitchen it is the salt and pepper, and in a relationship it is the love. Red Legend gets it done. A healthy dose of Cabernet Franc and Merlot and whatever else is in the Shalestone cupboard. — 12 years ago
On the nose; macerated lemon & golden apple, just a whiff of apple cider, overripe pineapple, lemon custard, the citrus flesh in marmalade, lime pith with some flesh, sea spray, chalkiness, yeast, yellow lilies, citrus blooms and white spring flowers.
The body is full & rich. Acidity is sharpe & crisp. Macerated lemon & golden apple, just a whiff of apple cider, a little bit of sour green apple, overripe pineapple, lemon custard, the citrus flesh in marmalade, lime pith with some flesh, sea shells, chalkiness, round grey volcanic minerals, yeasty, doughy, bread, yellow lilies, citrus blooms and white spring flowers. The long finish is rich and is excellently executed.

Now that's a properly aged Barolo! The legend says that the 71 is Rinaldi sold to Barisone in a demijohn. Beautiful secondary savory cloves & forest notes. Still shows some bright red fruit too. Absolutely beautiful & thank you to the Rare Wine Co for unearthing these kinds of treasures. — 8 years ago
Brander vineyard, planted in 1975, is a quiet legend in the Santa Ynez AVA. The vineyard specializes in Bordeaux style wines, with major grape varietals consisting of Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. Sauvignon Blanc tends not to age well, so drink them within ~3 years of bottling. Warmer climate examples, typical of CA, tend towards grapefruit and tree fruit flavors and typically balance the young juice with high acid. This one was quite crisp and refreshing! ~$17 | #brander #sauvingnonblanc #santaynezvalley
On the eyes: Pale yellow with a hint of green, star bright, clear, med stain, med tears, no floc, gas present.
On the nose: White peach, ripe honeydew, lychee, perfume, and wet chalk. Med alcohol.
On the tongue: Med+ acid, med tannin, med alcohol, med body, effervescent in the mouth. White peaches, ripe honeydew, guava, orange blossom, chalky undertones, perfumed finish. Very nice balance. — 9 years ago
Loved & lived up to legend. Lots of layers. savory mineral notes- wet clay, hint of mint? and lovely red fruit still intact. Held this for 14 yrs, 20yrs old on Christmas was perfect timing! — 9 years ago
Beautifully "restrained" (if that term applies to Napa blockbusters) and showing fantastic balance.
This reminds me of 2003 Araujo Eisele CS at age 5+.
Buy as much as you can afford and then put a few extra bottles on your CC.
This is going to be a legend in 20+ years.

Not my Dad's birth year, but as close as I could find for his 83rd. Mid-shoulder fill, completely soaked cork. Room-filling nose of raisin and toffee. The fortifying spirit is probably the dominant remaining component, but fairly smooth and liqueur-like,. Some raisin, butterscotch and coffee on the palate. A bit of bitterness on the finish and a slight burn going down. Seemed stronger than the 19.1 ABV. Still fun to share this though. — 10 years ago

1979 Clos Du Mesnil. What do you do when you are confronted with a legendary wine? You hope it doesn’t disappoint. At Pages in Paris today, Tomo delighted us with this outstanding bottle. Medium golden hue. The nose was to die for: fresh, white flower, chalk and honeyed - alluring and forever changing in the glass while keeping its freshness. Hints of truffle wafted away within minutes. What seemed like an impossible dream of the ultimate Champagne remained intact. Fine but persistent bubbles, huge but balanced concentration with a refreshing, zesty acidity and a finish I can still taste an hour and a half after having drained the last few precious drops of this legend. Wow, wow, wow. Incredible. 100 points. Don’t be afraid to open now or in 20 years. — 7 years ago
