Funky nose that blows off to reveal black cherry and cola. Palate is similar and shows delicacy and good length. — 10 years ago

I didn't get the cola at first. But good perception. Now I agree.

Chapelle St. Theodoric

Le Grand Pin Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2011

A delicious wine that should show even more in the next few years. With notes of kirsch and black currant, this soft, but complex wine is delicious. It has slight herbaceous undertones that round out the fruit forwardness. Probably one of the better Chat. Du Papes from this vintage. — 10 years ago

Bourgogne Pinot Noir

2011. Light nose of raspberry & smoke. Good acid for food pairing. Beautiful for the price — 10 years ago

Domaine Lafouge (Jean et Gilles Lafouge)

La Chapelle Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2012

This is a silkier, more elegant vintage of the Chapelle, at least relative to the 2010, which was really in my zone, as well as the 2009, which I found over-the-top, but in both cases I think there was more stuffing there than here. This would've shown better if I'd opened it with white meat or even fish or something else where a lightweight presence and loose-knit structure is called for. It's an excellent wine in that idiom but lacks some of the solidity and grip it has offered in other years. It's not imbalanced at all, and the trademark stony mineral flavors are still here, it's just a slimmer version of its usual self. — 10 years ago

Damn. Best in show, price wise. Not necessarily the wine everyone understands straight away, but to me it's pretty much ten on ten — 11 years ago
