Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Austin BBQ is amazing!!!....Enjoying this Oakville Ranch CS with brisket and pulled pork. Wish I had more bottles of this on the trip to try at other BBQ joints. BYOB joints are hard to find in Austin. — 6 years ago

Mineral Springs Ranch Pinot Noir 2016

Delectable Wine
9.4

Glistening magenta. Displays expansive, spice- and mineral-accented red/dark berry preserve scents that take on incense and lavender flourishes with air. Juicy, seamless and energetic on the palate, offering densely packed black raspberry, cherry liqueur and exotic spice flavors that show sharp delineation and back-end thrust. Finishes impressively long and smooth, with resonating red fruit, floral notes and velvety, harmonious tannins that make a cameo appearance. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, June 2019) — 6 years ago

Another winner from the Towe family. Ripping lemon acidity with a slight oak presence for me, which I might be confusing for its move through malo. Excited to explore more of their wines! — 7 years ago

Shake Ridge Ranch Mourvedre 2013

I'm upping my rating on this. Wine needed air to show its full glory. Today, it's blowing dark fruit, tree bark, big cinnamon and dark spice - yet, it remains fresh and vibrant. It still reminds me of really good Cru Beaujolais but the Mourvèdre character is more present. Yum! — 10 years ago

The 2010 Esprit de Beaucastel from Tablas Creek was a tough act to follow, but this elegant Rhône blend from Sonoma just did that.

The nose was quite similar with aroma of blue fruits and earthy elements with hint of violet, it was the palate that set it apart: soft, complex and deep, with great texture and beautiful acidity that adds the tension. Elegant and seamless.

Kale Anderson was the long time wine maker at Pahlmeyer, and Kale wines are all vineyard-specific. Worth seeking out.

Great expression of the varietal, however lighter in body than expected. Big dark blackberry fruit with hints of peppery baking spices and licorice on the finish. Soft and velvety. — 6 years ago

Wild dark berries, blueberries, huckleberries, well done toast, dark florals and coffee grounds & bacon fat on the nose. The wine has experienced beautiful bottle evolution. The tannins are nicely softened but will continue to soften further over the next 7 or so years. It's mouthfeel is round, full and elegant. The fruits are ripe & juice but dry on the longer finish. It's a nice blend of wild dark berries and an array of blue fruits. Blackberries, black plum, plum, dark cherries, blueberries with an undertone of over pancakes, olallieberries, huckleberries, strawberries preserves, a bramble quality, anise, slight tarry notes, cinnamon, vanilla, caramel, nutmeg, dark volcanic minerals with a touch of iron, dark moist soils, dry crushed rocks, violets, lavender, violets, used coffee grounds, slightly sweetened black tea, wood shavings, graphite, acidity is spot on and the balance of fruit and earth, length and structure are beginning their harmony. The finish is long, lush, round, elegant and lasts well over a minute. Looking forward to the Nickel & Nickel Entrecote in May to see how their 16 single vineyard Cabernets are developing. — 9 years ago

Too bad. The event changes weekends in April year to year. Perhaps, you can make it one of these years. Once you attend, you're hooked. It's a really good event with some rare tastings not to mention tasty bites and excellent scenery all around.

Struggling to explain this cab! Intoxicating nose. Not overly rich/full.... but not thin either. Not syrupy , not dry.... sort of 'in the middle' on all counts... But yet smooth & great flavor! A bit sweet at first but after decanting = wow! Def buy again. Dana - I think you'd like!!! — 10 years ago

The Ojai Vineyard

Roll Ranch Vineyard Syrah 2010

Had the 2010 Roll Ranch with Christmas dinner of prime rib, baby artichokes, asparagus, roasted potatoes. Had this after a 1999 Dalla Valle Cabernet. A little thin on first sip and not a as full as the regular cuvée. Losing fruit? Energized and vibrant for an older vintage. After some time in the glass, the wine filled out and is improving. Maybe decant? — 10 years ago

Lovely, deep nose! Extremely soft on the palate with nice blackberry and plum flavors. Even a little spice. Fades pretty quick for an '09 Napa Cab and isn't as bold and powerful as I would have expected. Not bad but probably $20 bucks too high in price. Wife rated it 90/91. — 10 years ago

Korte Ranch Vineyard Zinfandel 2011

Bonus! We had the 2010 and the 2011. I'm going to rate the 2010 here. The nose and first sip were dark and black fruit forward. Smelled less like zin and more like a Bordeaux. Taste and finish had nice structure, round edges, and a lasting, full bodied kick. We preferred the 2010 to the 2011, which was a juicier and more fruity red. — 10 years ago
