Lokoya's Cabernet Sauvignon (Howell Mountain) draws on both fruit from the Jackson family's Keyes and La Jota vineyards, which is unusual, as the wine is usually made only from Keyes. Plush, deep and inky, the 2015 races across the palate with layers of inky blue/purplish fruit, spice, new leather, licorice and lavender. Deep, powerful and super-concentrated, the 2015 has a lot to offer. Here, too, winemaker Chris Carpenter has tamed the mountain tannins considerably. Another wonderful Merlot. Mountain wines are known for beautiful dark color, intense aromatics and full bodied flavors. This Howell Mountain wine does not disappoint. Beautiful ruby red color and great aromas of blue fruit, cedar and a little earthiness. The tannins on this young wine are very apparent but seem to integrate nicely with the intense flavors of blueberries and baking spices while in your mouth. I am sure this wine will improve with age but it drinks very well today. — 8 years ago

Bones Restaurant in ATL. With @Clinton Coe Left Bank BDX. Really nice bouquet of dark fruits. Tannins and acid were in balance after 3 hours of decanting. Drank along side 13 Silver Oak Alexander Valley and 12 La Jota Howell Mountain. All the wines were showing well with great company. 📈 — 8 years ago

I can only imagine how confusing it must be (if anybody is actually paying attention to my scribblings on this app) to "read" my palate.

Often wines to me are either too big/bold and other times too lean or lacking identity.

This specific wine found me wishing for more stuffing and "flabbiness" (from riper fruit) as I think Syrah is a varietal that lends itself to a style with some funk, slight RS, higher alc. and some "wild" aromas.

This wine is like that straight-A's student in your class that didn't stay for beers/cigarettes in the gym locker after PE.

Sipping Fine Wine

Had this gem at a big PE tasting in NYC. Deep red and gentle light aromas of fruit and perfumed and herb spices. A blend of 75% Cab Sauvignon, 15% Cab Franc, 5% Merlot, & 5% Petite Verdot. Rich Forman had his 45th harvest in 2011, his son Toby helps him run this family winery. On the palate cherry and blackberry flavors with an underlying sweetness with herb spice, rich and full of tastes. Fine layered tannins opening up the quality of this wine. Very approachable now on s lingering finish. Tasting Sample. — 9 years ago
