Violets, purple goodness. Big fruit. Big acid. Soft tannins. Better than Jonata? Different, but I'd say yes. — 9 years ago

The Fiddlestix Vineyard is located at mile marker 7.28 on Santa Rosa Road in Lompoc, California, which is situated in the Sta. Rita Hills AVA. In the mid-90's Kathy Joseph of Fiddlehead Cellars, along with the viticultural icon Taz Steinhauer, acquired the 133-acre, former flower farm, across Santa Rosa Road from the Sanford & Benedict Vineyard, and in 1998 they planted 100 acres of Pinot Noir. Aside from the small amount earmarked for Fiddlehead's own production, much of the vineyard is contracted to other producers, including Ampelos, Ancien, Anglim, Arcadian, Bonaccorsi, Dragonette, Jonata, Ken Brown, Hartley-Ostini Hitching Post, Gainey, Ortman, Pali, Paul Lato, Prodigal, RN Estate, Rusack, Summerland, Tyler, Vogelzang, Wedell , and TAZ, not to mention Etude.
Opens with an austere earth note in a tone reminiscent of Barbaresco, and in the words of Miles Raymond, it's "tighter than a nun's ass." 45 minutes later, though, and it's singing and juicy. Black cherry, but not overripe, leads this medium bodied, pungent thinker, while a virtual greenhouse of floral shades help twist and shape its direction. Secondary dusty earth and walnut skin reveal the source of its austerity. True to its terroir, there's a tertiary layer of spice and rocks that provides the depth needed to go from good to great. — 8 years ago
Needs to open up a minute... Unripe fruit on the front... Strong alcohol on the nose... Wet stone/rubber undertone... Slightly smoky on the finish — 9 years ago
14.5% alc.
Pitch black in color (think young Ch. Pavie) and certainly past it's adolescence this actually shows very nice and proves that (certain) Chilean wines can age with grace.
In a blind tasting I would have guessed an older vintage of Jonata "Todos". — 10 years ago
Call it bad country music because it’s Big and Rich. On the first glass I had no clue it was 10 years old. Time in bottle has reduced the tannin to nothingness but the fruit and acidity are still extremely present. It’s drinking great right now, a great match for a big fat ribeye. — 7 years ago
2010 vintage. Santa Barbara County. Chardonnay sourced from 2 vineyards: Sandford & Benedict (55%) and Solomon Hills (45%). From the team behind Jonata. Aged 50% in neutral oak, 25% new oak and 25% stainless steel. Light brilliant yellow. Intense perfumes of white peach, lemon and flowers with a hint of coconut. Concentrated with layers of fruit, a certain minerality and crispy acidity. The oak is present but well-integrated. Long lemon confit finish . This should be even better in a few years. — 8 years ago
The 2015 Rosé of Pinot Noir is bright, focused and finely cut. Cranberry, white pepper, chalk and flowers are some of the signatures in this super-appealing, chiseled Rosé from the team at Jonata. (AG) — 9 years ago
Another post of my recent CA trip to see my daughter we visited Santa Barbara Winery Babcock. We tasted was Radical Pinot Noir from a small hillside in the heart of the Radian Vineyard, owned by grower Jonata Winery. Ruby red with purple tones and aromas of ripe fruits and complex spice. On the palate concentrated flavors of raspberry and cherry infused with dried aromatic herbs and fine tannins. The finish had a touch of smoky tones and lingered through the ending. Very Nice. Enjoyable, but surprisingly tastes like a high alcohol CA pinot (like Jonata). — 9 years ago
Great acidity, tropical notes of guava and tangerine, dry, mineral-driven finish. Great wine from the Jonata winemaker. #sauvignonblanc #california #2013 #theparing — 10 years ago

Second label from the Jonata house. Dark fruit aromas (blackberry, currents) with notes of wet leaves, black licorice and tobacco. Pallet is big and round, but the tannins are very soft. Luscious and ripe black fruit flavors. Earthy finish, which is a touch on the short side. Easy drinker that is nicely balanced. Good stuff! — 5 years ago
